discussion question

The study of the family in later life is the attempt to capture an ever-changing process that affects us all as we move through our individual lives, through the domains of family, work, and the political world. As a human service and public service leader, you will find that your family in later life will not be like that of your parents or your grandparents. The dynamic interplay between social change and the aging of cohorts, including your cohort, guarantees that the only thing that you can count on is that the family in later life in the future will be different socially, economically, and (to some degree) physically. As human service and public service leaders, you will need to recognize that individual and large-scale planning, as you face an aging society, must include flexibility. The future of the family in later life is uncertain; only the fact that we are all aging is firmly guaranteed. has had a blog for several years called The New Old Age. From that point forward, women have been primary targets for the ad world–even in product categories that might traditionally be viewed as male oriented. To evaluate how that remains true today, locate a prominent advertisement for a product or service in of these three categories: home improvement, automotive, and financial. In this case, the client\’s values are equivalent to dependency in the eyes of the counselor and can adversely influence counseling outcomes. However, if the counselor possesses the cultural competence necessary to work with the client, he or she is better equipped to manage this discrepancy. When situations such as these arise, the multiculturally competent counselor works from the client\’s unique worldview, being aware of the needs of the client. When potential ethical conflicts occur due to various differences, the counselor faces the challenge of making the appropriate ethical decision to ensure that the rights of his or her client are protected while receiving services.
