Assignment 1: Juvenile Treatment Debate

Training schools are detention facilities designed to house delinquent youths, generally for thirty days or longer. These facilities represent the most punitive sanction available in the juvenile justice system. Training schools vary in their physical structures, from the relatively comfortable and homelike cottage and dormitory settings of minimum-security institutions to the high-walled compounds that generally resemble their adult prison maximum-security counterparts.Due to their long-term status, training schools often provide delinquent youths the opportunity to learn a trade or continue their education. The main focus, however, is on rehabilitating the youthful offenders. To this end, a variety of treatment methods are employed, including positive peer culture, behavior modification, and guided group interaction. This is only a part of the list of treatment options available to training school administrators—other methods exist and are currently used.Submission Details:In at, post to the  your responses to the following questions:

Much of the discussion surrounding sexual assaults on college campuses involves an anecdotal association with alcohol and victim participation. Jackson, et al (2006) suggests that an association with previous sexual deviance deserves more attention.  Is the Jackson article important to the discussion related to college assaults? In what way? Based upon the article, are there any implications we can draw from knowing more about prior deviance? Do these implications cause us to reconsider current preventative measures? Introduction to Criminal Justice. 14th ed. Cengage Learning. ISBN-13: 978-1-285-069009-8  If research could show that the tendency to commit crime is inherited that is not enough to say that the individual will, or even that the individual will inherit all the traits that may or may not cause him or her to commit a crime. Children of violence prone criminals should be given every opportunity to have a fresh start at life just as individuals that weren’t born to violence- prone criminals. It all boils down to choice, every individual on this earth has free will and the power to make any decision they desire. Environmental influences are a factor that should be heavily weighed when determining whether or not an individual will actually be affect by their parent’s criminal activity. According to Levitt (2013) other people, organizations and structures will impinge on the decision-making processes of all actors so if the parents aren’t rehabilitated (still engaging in criminal and or violent behavior) or surrounded by non criminals then the child should be taken from the home and given the option to be surrounded with positive non criminal individuals.                                                                                    References Levitt, M.
