OL 211 Final Project Milestone One

OL 211 Final Project Milestone One Guidelines and Rubric Overview: This milestone is designed to begin a critical analysis applying knowledge gained within the course. This short paper assignment is the first step in the analysis of the company that will become your final project. For the final project, you will review the human resource management (HRM) in an organization through a real scenario. This case study will give you the opportunity to explore various roles and processes within the human resources profession. A key skill for any professional working in human resources is the ability to develop and implement processes that align with a company’s strategic plan and mission. Begin by reading the first 13 pages of the case study A.P. Moller-Maersk Group: Evaluating Strategic Talent Management Initiatives (up to HR-Customer Initiative at Maersk), located in your Harvard Business Review Coursepack. Start your short paper by briefly answering the following questions: 1. Explain why the human resource function should be aligned with an organization’s strategic plan (use ideas from the Module One discussion on this topic). 2. Explain how current global conditions in Maersk’s industry impact human resource management practices within this organization (use ideas from the Module One discussion on this topic). Then, using the material on recruitment strategies provided in this week’s lesson and the case study, address the following: 1. Compare and contrast recruitment and selection of internal versus external candidates in general. 2. Describe how Maersk has recruited and selected new employees who were aligned with the organization’s vision and goals over the years. 3. Assess the effectiveness of its recruitment process and determine what changes if any you would recommend to improve employee success and retention. Guidelines for Submission: Your submission should be 2–3 pages in length and double-spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font. Be sure to list your references at the end of your paper.

Technological advances have enabled media to provide near-instantaneous coverage from every corner of the world.

Technological advances have enabled media to provide near-instantaneous coverage from every corner of the world. This first became apparent during Operation Desert Shield in 1990, when the public was exposed to images of U.S. military operations in Kuwait and Iraq with minimal delay. The technology continued to evolve, and during Operations Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and Enduring Freedom in 2001, broadcasts were real-time, and many 24-hour news networks now existed. Images of violence such as suicide bombings and firefights inundated the daily lives of Americans. As you have already learned, terrorism depends on the ability to inspire fear. In the past, this influence was limited by an individual’s proximity to the event and word of mouth regarding the act. Today, although media outlets are rarely at the attack site during an attack, they usually broadcast the destruction that ensues. The media’s ability to report on these events increased the terrorists\’ audience exponentially. Western media coverage has ironically created a false proximity that has proven to be effective at spreading fear to the masses. For example, Spain’s decision to withdraw support for the Iraq War followed extensive media coverage of the Madrid train bombings. It has been said that the media coverage of the attack strongly influenced public opinion against the Iraq War to such an extent that government policy shifted. For this assignment, you are the public relations officer for the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. ISAF is the military command under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization responsible for security, stability, and reconstruction in Afghanistan. Your commander has indicated that the Taliban insurgents have been gaining in popularity primarily through their effective use of the media. He believes ISAF needs to develop a better relationship with the media to help mitigate the insurgents\’ attempts to gain support and positive public sentiment through their media efforts. You have been selected to lead the media campaign for ISAF. Through extensive liaison, you have been allowed to write 1 article that will run simultaneously in the major news publications throughout the United States, Europe, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.Your commander has given you the freedom to write what you feel is necessary, so long as it contains the following at a minimum:

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Analyzing a Social Policy

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Analyzing a Social PolicyIn this course, you have learned that social policies are formulated to solve social problems considered important by a mass of voters, media, and political actors. Social policy is but one solution to the problem—not necessarily the most rational, effective, or socially just. Social policies are human creations and, as such, can be changed. In this paper you will analyze a social policy as a tool for social justice.Research one social welfare policy using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet.Analyze the policy and address the following:The social problem addressed by the policyThe policy objectives, value premises, expectation, and target populationsEffects of the policyImplications of the PolicyAlternative PoliciesWrite a 4–6-page paper in Word format. Professional Strategies WK5

The following topic(s) will demonstrate what the discussion is about, but feel free to branch off or expand on the topics. At the end of the discussion, you will be asked to craft a 150 word reflection on what you have learned through this conversation and post it to the Weekly Reflection Journal. The more active you are in this part of the discussion, the more you will have to draw from in your reflection, so get involved, be active, help out your classmates when they need it, and, most of all, enjoy the conversation.Using the checklist on p. 130 of the text, evaluate your first draft. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses you found regarding your own writing and how you plan to build upon and/or improve what you discovered. Please respond (or give advice) to at least two of your peers.  This week, through our work, we are moving closer to assembling our research project, and we are practicing the habit of self-evaluating our work. Additionally, we have begun to explore the following course outcomes:In this reflection journal, in at least 150 words, reflect back on what you have learned so far through the course readings, assignment (if you’ve completed it yet), and our discussion. Consider the following questions to guide your reflection: This week, you will be posting the first draft of your course paper. While you should consider this draft to be a work in progress, you should take great effort in preparing the best draft you can create. The more complete your work, the better comments you will receive, and these comments will help you craft a much more effective course paper. Make sure you follow APA guidelines for formatting and citations, and refer to the following criteria to construct your draft. Please take the time to review the following documents to make sure the final version of your paper aligns to these requirements. In addition, please review the paper requirements listed below to ensure you craft your paper in a way that will cover everything.

Reflective Journal

The purpose of this assessment task is for students to reflect on significant communication
issues arising from their studies or personal life. The issues may be drawn from positive or
negative communication experiences at home, Uni or work. For example: you may have had
an argument with someone. How did you resolve the issue? How would you relate differently
next time? What specific communication concepts and practices could you apply to this
particular issue? Marking criteria will assess the following: Quality of insight, range of topics,
ability to link your reflections to communication concepts and theories, application of theory
(in-text referencing), quality of writing and presentation. The reflective journal marking guide
