INternational development : IDEAS AND ACTORS

Its 2045. Write a blog about the world you\’re living in, looking back at the last 30 years of international development and the challenges ahead – what you\’ve seen change, what you\’ve done, where you find yourself now…

THIS ASSIGNMENT IS FOR A PORTFOLIO
Key readings for the module

Here\’s a list of readings that will give you a longer-term perspective on development – and which scotch the myth that development began with President Truman\’s post-war speech. Some are old, but no less classic: at the very minimum Hirshmann and Wolf should be read by every development student.

Hirschmann, Albert (1967) Development Projects Observed, Washington: The Brookings Institution. This is a brilliant book with timeless lessons about development. See particularly his discussion of the desire for a myth of progress to believe in as a driving motivational force for those who work in development.

Lange, Matthew (2004) British Colonial Legacies and Political Development, World Development, Vol 32(6): 905-922. This very interesting article explores the impact of British colonialism on development, highlighting a number of significant differences in the type and extent of colonialism and effects that continue to be felt in the countries that were colonised by the British Empire.

Fialho, Djalita (2012) Altruism but not Quite: the genesis of the least developed country (ldc) category, Third World Quarterly, 33:5, 751-768. This article looks at the history of the creation of the label \’least developed country\’ and the politics that surrounds the use of this category.

Fletcher, Robert (2012) \’The Art of Forgetting: imperialist amnesia and public secrecy\’, Third World Quarterly, 33:3,423-439

Moyo, Dambisa (2008), A Brief History of Aid in Dead Aid: Why Aid is Not Working and How there is Another Way for Africa,London: Penguin, pp10-28. Told by a former World Bank economist, this is another narrative on the decades of development assistance, with figures to match.

Rist, G. (2002) The History of Development: FromWestern Origins to Global Faith, London: Zed Books

Robb, C. (2004) Changing power relations in the history of aid, in Inclusive Aid: Changing Power and Relationships in Development,ed. Rachel Hinton and Leslie Groves, London: Earthscan. This is a short and easy to read piece that scans some of the significant landmarks in the history of aid.

Syed, Jawad and Faiza Ali (2011) \’The White Woman\’s Burden: from colonial civilisation to Third World development\’, Third World Quarterly, 32:2, 349-365

Wolf, Eric (1982) Europe and the People Without History, Berkeley: California University Press.

The data in below table lists country code and the order to remittance (OTR) time for hardware / software installations for the last 76 installations (from first to last). OTR is the time it takes from an order being placed until the system is installed and we receive payment (remittance). Because this company does business internationally, it also notes the country of installation using a country code. This code is listed in the first column.

Use the date in table above and answer the following questions in the space provided below:
1. Does the OTR time appear to be stable? Why or why not?
2. If you were to use a control chart to evaluate stability, which chart would you use? Why?
3. What can you learn about the distribution of the installation process?
4. Does it appear that the country has an impact on installation time? Why or why not?

– May well just give short form answers as word limit isnt the main issue
– Required SPSS documents and full instructions will be uploaded as attachments
– Below are the 3 parts of the report and the SPSS skill required in order to finish the assignment.
– Part 1.
For this part you are required to perform an independent samples t-test using SPSS.
Your solution should be word-processed and submitted electronically. Your solution
should include any output produced from the analysis, and an account of the
methods you used to obtain that output.
The problem:
Data file. Creditpromo
This is a hypothetical data file that concerns a department store\’s efforts to evaluate
the effectiveness of a recent credit card promotion (in dollars spent by cardholders).
To this end, 500 cardholders were randomly selected. Half received an ad promoting
a reduced interest rate on purchases made over the next three months. Half
received a standard seasonal ad.
Your task is to perform analysis to find out if the type of an advertisement had an
impact on the amount of dollars spent by credit holders.
Perform a suitable independent samples t-test on this data.
– Part 2
For this part you are required to perform an Analysis of Variance using SPSS. Your
solution should be word-processed and submitted electronically. Your solution
should include any output produced from the analysis, and a detailed account of
the methods you have used, the reasons you have chosen those particular methods,
and the conclusions you have drawn.
The problem:
The data file Treatment costs, contains the treatment records of a sample of patients
who received anti-clotting drugs during treatment for MI.
An experiment is carried out to determine the effect of using anti-clotting drugs and
whether a patient is a smoker or not on the costs of treatment.
Load the data into SPSS and investigate the meaning of the values of the variables.
Perform a suitable two-way Analysis of Variance to investigate the results. If
appropriate, include a suitable multiple comparisons analysis and/or a profile plot.
Explain why it is appropriate to include (or exclude) such analyses.
– Part 3
Coursework Brief
For this part you are required to perform a correlation analysis and multiple
regression using SPSS. Your solution should be word-processed and submitted
electronically. Your solution should include any output produced from the analysis,
and an account of the methods you used to obtain that output.
The problem:
Data: German credit.
In an investigation to determine how different factors affect the amount of credit
issued to the credit applicants. Variables include Age of the applicant, number of
available credits, and length of residence in the country of application.
Produce the Pearson correlation matrix for all variables except the name of the
printer.

musical analysis of a full-length commercial film

Your paper should be at least 5 double-spaced
pages in 12-point font pages with 1-inch margins. In this paper, you will demonstrate your understanding
of readings, lectures, and discussions up to this point in the term by correctly citing theories, socio-cultural
contexts, history, technological developments, and by applying terminology and concepts in your film
analysis paper. You will be present an argument, rather than a like-dislike critique. You will select a full length
(at least 60 minutes), English-language, commercial film with music and watch it. You may not
choose a film listed in the syllabus, but you may choose a film mentioned in the readings. The film
you select can be any genre. Consult Larry M. Timms Soul of Cinema (pp. 57-223) (Knight Library, call no.
MT95.T59 2003) for a selection of films.
You will create a Cue Sheet for the entire duration of the film, which will be in addition to the 4-5-page
paper. Consult Hearing the Movies by Buhler pp. 114-127 for examples (Knight Library, call no.
ML2075.B84 2010). Your paper should discuss the salient points of the film that you selected with respect
to music and action. Do not rehash every detail of the entire plot. A single paragraph explaining the plot
at the beginning of your paper is sufficient. You must situate your film historically relative to the sociocultural
issues current when it was conceived, and relative to the technological possibilities of the era.
Explain central people who figure into the production of the imagetrack and soundtrack. Superior papers
will cite judiciously from the readings and will footnote sources appropriately. For guidelines on grading,
please review my grading rubric. Put your cue sheet and essay in a single word document.

RESEARCH METHODLOGY

What Generation Y Wants
The fickle generation cares. Its just not about the things their parents used to care about.

GENERATION Y has been called many names since the eldest of the group entered the job market about a decade ago.

Their Generation X managers call them Generation Entitlement because they are not afraid of asking for help and speaking up when they feel short-changed. Their Baby Boomer bosses call them Generation Strawberry due to their easily bruised egos and apparent aversion to hardship and conflict.

Despite countless generalisations, the Generation Y is perhaps the most difficult to describe in broad strokes because they operate in extremes. They have short attention spans, but they can spend notoriously long hours on their pet project. They would willingly spend thousands of dollars on an item they really want, and skimp on the rest including their meals.

These dichotomies have had many marketers and employers searching for the elusive sweet spot for the young. It is rather difficult for the Gen X and Baby Boomers to understand the Gen Y, says Daryl Wong, a corporate trainer who works with employers and their Generation Y employees. That is why I always tell them that they are living in the Gen Ys world, not the other way around, he adds.

When it comes to what Generation Y wants from products, services and their jobs, Wong says two of the most important things are sincerity and honesty because the well-informed millennial can smell a phoney from a mile away.

They appreciate honesty, Wong says, adding that it is better for managers and manufacturers to own up to their mistakes instead of covering it up.

However, as a rather demanding lot, they also have a list of other characteristics they look for in work, life, and the things they use. The following, Wong reveals, are some of them.
Malaysian Business, 1st February 2013

About 55% of the companys employees are from the Baby Boomers Generation and they would be gradually retiring from services within the next 5 years. Furthermore, for the increase in production, the HR Department is having a challenging task to recruitment an additional of 15% workforce. Under which circumstances the HR department has to be targeting at the Gen Y for replacing and expansion of the human capital. (
Your Assignment
You are required to conduct a research and submit a detailed report covering the following matters of specific concern. Your report should include the research methodology you adopted to reach the said conclusions.
1.What is the difference in work attitude and behavior between the three generations in question the Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y?
2.What motivates the Gen Y at workplace?
3.What are the challenges that the Human Resources Department in the age of the Internet Economy.

The writer must be and do the following!
Must be UK born, writing with British vocabulary and style. Must hold a UK Business Degree with Organizational Development as a module and can utilize the concept without referring to a textbook. Excuses made by those without prior knowledge and are not specialists in the area, will not be tolerated at all, as the competencies utilized in this report cannot be learnt in a mere few hours. Reference sources have been included. Where a reference has been requested but not specified, writer must source a relevant one.
You will be provided with an 8646-worded Word document with RED boxed areas as your task (whole document has been included so you can incorporate cohesion and view the background of the work). You can however only FORMAT the unboxed area. Your job is to go through it and follow the instructions and expand on ALL the points made. All points have to be expanded upon objectively providing a reference where applicable. Some references and diagrams have been cited for you to reference using the Harvard style. The questionnaire in the appendices must be used and the responses derived from it must be consistent with the results of the diagnosis. The writer MUST NOT limit points and sections made, solely to the instructions provided, but use his/her specialist expertise to add more points which have not been included, so it does not hinder the final pre-arranged grade paid for. Where a point is getting too repetitive the latter points should be brief. In each section you must include a brief conclusion on how that specific section is in cohesion with the other interdependent sections and the overall OD plan.
You must relate every point to AG BARR as opposed to being generic! Generalisation should only occur when giving definition of terms but should be concise. You must not delete any of the pre-allocated bullet points in your sections but create a structure. Final work will be cross referenced with these instructions to check if they have been adhered to.

IF YOU CANNOT FULFILL THE ORDER TO THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS, HAVING REVIEWED ALL DOCUMENTS. PLEASE REFUSE THE JOB AS I WILL RETURN IT FOR FULL REVISION (consequently taking double your time).
