Before you submit the final version of your Strategic Management Plan, the last piece you need to create is an Executive Summary. This should be the first page in the final version of your plan. It\’s meant to be something that an executive could quickly read in order to get a basic understanding of the overall strategic management plan. Due to its purpose, the executive summary should be a thorough and concise summary clearly depicting the content of the plan. Give an overview of the goal you\’re trying to accomplish (any major findings in your research, the reasoning behind the goal, and any major obstacles you foresee. It should be treated as a document ready to be turned into an executive director, board of advisors, investor, etc. Therefore, format and style (presentation) is very important.

Assignment Option 1: Past and Present Influences on U.S. Hospital System: Paper

For this assignment, you will write a two to three page paper addressing the following:

Over the course of history, key events have helped to shape the hospital system in the United States. Evaluate the impact of one of the followingthe development of the modern health insurance industry, Medicare and Medicaid, or the Hill-Burton Act of 1946on the development of the hospital system. How might our hospital system be different today had history been different? What influence did recent healthcare reform efforts (Affordable Care Act) have on the current U.S. healthcare system?

Step 1: Visit the Miller Center website. Take notes on President Obama\’s Address to Congress on Healthcare (September 9, 2009) to examine the president\’s formal and informal powers to affect Congress and public opinion.

Step 2: Visit the THOMAS website. Take notes on the 111th Congress\’s proceedings regarding H.R.4872, Healthcare and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (commonly referred to as the Affordable Care Act, along with H.R.3590). Under \”Actions,\” look at the \”Major Actions.\” Click on the House Roll No. 167, Senate Record Vote Number, and Roll No. 194 to examine the number and party affiliation of yea and nay votes.

Step 3: Visit the Oyez website. Search Oyez for the Affordable Care Act case National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius (2012) to analyze the Supreme Court\’s role in shaping policy. Determine the questions and the conclusions of the case and on what argument Congress based its decision.

Step 4: Conduct additional Internet research. Conduct any additional research on the Internet necessary to provide context for the policymaking.

Step 5: Draft paper. Using the notes you took on each website, draft an analysis of the role of the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches in making the policy of the Affordable Care Act of 2010.
