Discussion Post

In the reading for this module, author Rick Newman writes that employees who demonstrate \”multidisciplinary agility\” have a competitive edge and that \”learning new skills is anything but a temporary assignment.\” For this discussion post, first decide which general education skill covered in the Seminar courses to this point (communication, critical thinking, or information literacy) provides the biggest competitive edge in your field. Then, explain why you feel it provides such a competitive edge, and how you can continue to improve in this area after graduation. Also consider and share employer-desired soft skills, and how they will provide a competitive edge specific to your future career. For example, if you are a Criminal Justice student, you might decide that Communication is the general education skill that provides the biggest edge to employees. Then, you might write about the increasing importance of written communication as it relates to increased technology available to those in the field.

Provide analysis and justifications to support your conclusions. What role, if any, should the U.S. Government play in health care coverage for Americans? Should the government’s role in terms of health insurance be different for those with jobs and for those without jobs?

Students tend to find this essay intimidating, but theres no reason it should be. Poems have characters (generally speakers) as we have seen in plays, themes, as weve seen in drama and fiction, settings that can be like those in fiction, and situations or plots that are akin to drama. Of course, poetry is a different form. It allows the writer to narrow the focus more closely than he usually can in fiction or drama and to draw attention to words as the materials of his or her art. Word patterns, sounds and departures from the traditional structures of grammar and capitalization are significant in poetry because they signal both the poets intent to disrupt our conventional way of viewing language and the world and reinvent it. This can also be done through sound. Notice that poetry joins the spoken word to print in a way that neither drama nor fiction does. The links between ideas may be conceptual (Had we but world enough, and time, /This coyness, lady, were no crime.) as in Marvells logic of negation (i.e., we dont own the world or have much time in it, so coyness IS a crime), and the musical principles of poetry such as meter and rhyme join thought with sound and emotion (i.e., Marvell rhymes devour with power39-40 to emphasize the point that the lovers must wrest pleasure from the present before they are destroyed by time). In writing this paper, try to be sensitive to these elements and read the poems closely. You might want to look at sample papers on poetry in Meyer on pages 669, 687,712, and 742. You can also consult Meyers Glossary of Literary Terms beginning on 1651.

The poets speaker or persona is the powerful central consciousness of the poem since the perceptions of the speaker are the ways that the reader is invited to the world and experience. A poet need not use the same persona in every poem; the speaking consciousness may, and perhaps should, vary from poem to poem. Examine the presentation of the speaker in one or more of the love poems of Marlow (974), Marvell (613), Eliot (1039), and Donne (674)

How does Robert Frost view nature? This might seem to be a simple question, but it could be said that Frosts portraits of the man in nature is a great deal different from the pretty postcards hes sometimes dismissed as writing. How do you see this darker view in Frosts mediations on nature?

Frosts Home Burial and Brownings My Last Duchess are both dramatic poems that include developed characters and themes. Browning is usually credited with inventing the form; how does he use it to twist the conventional themes of love poetry in My Last Duchess? How does Frost use dramatic principles to convey the theme of grief in Home Burial? Why does Frost use dramatic form to portray an argument rather than the tragic death of a child? You may write on one or both poems.

How do you view Langston Hughes poetry? He wrote: We younger Negro artists who create now intend to express our individual dark-skinned selves without fear or shame. If white people are pleased, we are glad. If they are not, it doesnt matterIf colored people are pleased we are glad. If they are not, their displeasure doesnt matter either. We build our temples for tomorrow, strong as we know how, and we stand on top of the mountain, free within ourselves (902). Assess the strength of Hughes poetic temples which were constructed from the 1920s to the 1950s; how do they accord with your contemporary ideas of race?

Public Key Infrastructure

Suppose you are the Information Security Director at a small software company. The organization currently utilizes a Microsoft Server 2012 Active Directory domain administered by your information security team. Mostly software developers and a relatively small number of administrative personnel comprise the remainder of the organization. You have convinced business unit leaders that it would be in the best interest of the company to use a public key infrastructure (PKI) in order to provide a framework that fosters confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and nonrepudiation. Email clients, virtual private network (VPN) products, Web server components, and domain controllers would utilize digital certificates issued by the certificate authority (CA). Additionally, the company would use digital certificates to sign software developed by the company in order to demonstrate software authenticity to the customer.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

Analyze the fundamentals of PKI, and determine the primary ways in which its features and functions could benefit your organization and its information security department.
Propose one (1) way in which the PKI could assist in the process of signing the companys software, and explain the main reason why a customer could then believe that software to be authentic.
Compare and contrast public and in-house CAs. Include the positive and negative characteristics of each type of certificate authority, and provide a sound recommendation of and a justification for which you would consider implementing within your organization. Explain your rationale.
Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment (no more than 2-3 years old) from material outside the textbook. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

case study about ABC Corporation income statement at year-end of 2014

David, supervisor for the ABC Corporation, is preparing the companys income statement at year-end of 2014. He notes that the company had decided and replaced one of its equipment and lost $60000 on the sale of that equipment which was costs 150000 and its depreciation is $50000. Since the company has sold equipment routinely in the past with amount of $40000, David knows the losses cannot be reported as unusual. He also does not want to highlight it as a material loss since he feels that will reflect poorly on him and the company. He reasons that if the company had recorded more depreciation during the useful life of the assets (increasing the depreciation with 80%), the losses would not be so great. Since depreciation is included among the companys operating expenses, he wants to report the losses along with the companys expenses, where he hopes it will not be noticed.

Identify and discuss the accounting principle that would be violated, if any.

3. Assume that the operating net income for the year 2014 is $300000, what is the effect of the loss on the operating net income before and after increasing depreciation.
