You will use this case study to complete several assignments throughout the course. Case Study assignments may be written as memos. Once you have read the case, complete this first assignment, which asks you to:
Design and implement the security project for TKU by using the security systems development life cycle (SecSDLC).
Question: One might argue that in the course of the twentieth century, since World War I, the United States grew as both a national community and as many communities of new identity groups. Some examples you might consider (among others) include the fundamentalist Christians of the 1920s, New Deal liberals, the many rights-based communities of the 1960s and 1970s, and the modern conservative movement. Explain how these trends came to be, examining 3-4 examples from class in depth. How have these developments shaped the cultural and political character of the United States as we know it now? In your conclusion, discuss the applicability of these trends in the present day. Why is this still a relevant historical trend to consider?
The INTRODUCTION should outline the timeframe of the events you discuss and preview your chosen examples. The last sentence or two is your THESIS/ARGUMENT: this should describe what you consider to be the most compelling ways these trends have shaped the cultural and political character of the United States (i.e. it is a direct response to the heart of the essay question).
The BODY of the essay should cover a broad range of time but use specific examples examined in depth (like with analysis paragraphs) to support the argument. Chronological organization and selection of examples from a broad range of periods will allow for a discussion of change over time. Use only the sources from class-textbook, lecture, primary documents, Digital History, or History Study Center, and cite them in the MLA style (author and page number if applicable in parentheses, plus a works cited page with full locating information).
Wrap up with a brief CONCLUSION. Again, think about the broader influence of the developments youve discussed in your essay. Sum up your essay and argument.

Defined, a historical argument is a set of propositions designed to demonstrate that a particular conclusion, called the thesis, is true. An historical argument gives reasons for holding a certain opinion about an event in the past. You need to ensure that you have a clearly stated thesis and a soundly supported conclusion to support that thesis.
