Major Responsibilities

Contribute to development of intellectual property identification, assessment, protection, and dissemination strategies and business models in pursuit of KAUSTs economic development mission
Conduct special projects as assigned
Evaluate new technologies for patentability and commercialization potential, focusing on identifying those opportunities with high value and high impact potential, and engage and manage third-party tools and experts as appropriate in this process
Supervises the development of key value propositions for new technologies and the identification of target market segments in order to ensure a comprehensive business and technology development case is developed and presented
Supervises market scanning and studies in order to identify potential technology development opportunities such as prototype development, partnering and licensing opportunities based on the KAUST research capabilities and existing portfolio
Oversee patent prosecution for new technologies, review work product, define patent prosecution strategy, and support management of patent budget for a portfolio of technologies

Identify and connect with potential licensing partners and customers in order to market high value technologies and projects
Negotiate licenses and other IP-related agreements aligned with KAUSTs economic and business development strategies
Establish strong relationships with KAUST faculty, deans, center directors and administration, and maintain current knowledge of KAUST research plans, programs, and collaborations
Coach and develop KAUST inventors and entrepreneurs (including faculty members, research scientists, students, and post-docs) to advance technologies towards commercialization
Develop, track and report metrics and KPIs for TTO
