Immigration Policy Paper: Choose one of the issues that you reported on in your article summaries or some other current issue and focus on it for a more in depth policy breakdown of the issuerelating the issue to the class material and models. The 7-8 page paper should cover:

* a brief relevant history of that policy issue as it relates to the particular state, country or regional grouping(EU) involved

* ramifications (for the state, country or grouping of countries involved)

* origin of the state, country or regional grouping\’s position and that of the member countries of the regional groupremember that there may be a big difference between the political and economic rationale behind an issue.

* the winners and losers from different possible outcomeswho are the different stakeholders within the state or country regarding the issue for example: the migrants and their families, low or high skilled laborers, tax payers, a particular industry, politician, etc.

You should try to find a variety of sourcesbooks, periodicals, Internet sites, etc. This assignment will be very easy for you if you have been able to focus your current events on the topic you choose. The library has several databases that contain abstracts and even the entire text of articles. I know that the librarians over there would be happy to help you work with the databases and locate research materials. You will probably find that our library does not have every source that would be of use to you in your research. I expect you to have to use interlibrary loan. It is a very easy procedure if you leave enough time to get the materials. Do not procrastinate in looking for sources. I would say that at least ninety percent of the time procrastination is the reason people do not do well on papers.

Paper Format: For all papers the format should be double-spaced (without including the works cited page), 12 point Times New Roman font, and one inch margins all the way around (be sure to check the schools computers many of them are set to have a 1.25 inch margin). All sources used should be cited within the paper, and a full and formal works cited page should be included. Be particularly vigilant with your citations so as not plagiarize others, clearly citing both loose relations of others\’ ideas as well as direct quotes.

All papers should be clear and well presented. You will get separate grades for content and writing. Writing a high-quality paper is challenging. The paper should be well-structured and flow easily and clearly from section to section and paragraph to paragraph. Beginning with a detailed outline should help you in this regard. Try to be as precise as you can in choosing your words. Be sure not to overuse the same word and do vary the structure of your sentences so as to keep the reader\’s interest. When you think you have finished, read your paper aloud one final time. See what it sounds like; read every word on the page. It is very easy to ignore one\’s own mistakes on paper but if you hear exactly what you have written it will be easier to find silly errors and confusing sentences. Weeding through careless mistakes is frustrating for the reader so please proofread. Do not neglect your introduction or conclusion. I will notice. Spend some time on these sections to make a good first and last impression. If you lose your reader right off the bat or end on a bad note, they will remember. I will give you in advance the actual grading rubric that I will be using when I evaluate your papers. Please consult this as you review your papers. It will give you an accurate idea of each of the areas I am seeking when I grade your paper.
