The essay\’s objective is to create a policy recommendation for the NYPD to improve their community relations. This will means you must first see what the NYPD already to improve community relations, compare the efforts that other state police departments have been using, and then create a policy that either forces the NYPD to have more community relation training\’s. You must include: 1) the reasoning behind the policy/policies you choose,
2) template of some sort of the policy, 3) where would you need this policy to be passed, 4) what is the policy itself, and 5) how will it be implemented (projected costs, and timeline, political influence)?
What I would like to see:
-what do other state police departments have in terms of policies that target police/community relations ?
– more training for police officers to be more comfortable with residents of a different racial background
– actively seek out diverse recruits (especially departments with low rate applications from minorities) and help recruits with the application process
-does the nypd have any training on how to mediate situations? If not, how can it be created or improved on to be more frequent?
-Does the NYPD have a violence prevention program? If so, how can we create or emphasize it even more in the NYPD and promote critical thinking skills?
-How can we create an emphasis on constant training on interpersonal skills(e.g., active listening, problem solving, persuasion, and conflict management) ?
My ideal policy recommendation is to have police officers attend monthly seminars on how to reduce violence by their persuasiveness of words, and how to calm down a situation by talking to people.
Every 6 months, the police department should be evaluated on its policy and measured for improvement as well.
PLEASE DO NOT USE CONSTANT BIG VOCABULARY……my ideal writing is written just like I have it written.
