I am not sure if I was looking for the right things to support my topics but here are some rough notes on what I was working towards to including in the essay:

In both Scattered Minds and Hold on To Your Kids, it is clear that Mat is addressing his opinion to a mature audience. From Hold on to your kids, Mat asks Should parenting be this difficult?. The question is directed towards parents, whether they are future parents to be, parents with a five-year-old child or parents of a full-grown adult who are simply interested in knowing what modern parenting looks like. In Scattered minds, Mat reflects on a phrase that one hears from many an exasperated parent and teacher. Just as Mat does in Hold on to your kids he is leading his opinions towards parents. However, including the word teacher implies that Mats audience for this novel consists of not only parents of ADD children but also indicating the issue to teachers or perhaps any person who has an ADD child in their life. Mats use of not specifying which category of parents the question is directed to in Hold on to your kids, and not directing his opinions from Scattered Minds to only the parents of ADD children, benefits Mat because it assigns the issues to a wider range of people that can relate to them.
