Purpose: The purpose of this paper is for you to demonstrate the degree of mastery you have achieved over course concept and your ability to apply that knowledge to a specific context.
Procedure: Select a country from Europe, Asia, or the Pacific Islands (excluding the U.S., U.S. Territories, and U.S. Protectorates). You cannot select a country that is in regional proximity to where you come from. In other words, if you or your immediate family are from Spain, you cannot choose a country from Western Europe, if you are from Taiwan, you cannot choose a country from South East Asia, etc.
Once you have selected a country, you will need to research and write a brief biography of that country that includes a discussion of the people (demographics), the various cultures of the country, and the qualities and characteristics of the languages spoken in that country. This needs to be a descriptive essay and not a list of facts and stats. Explain, to your reader, the connections between these three elements and the impact they have on the nation as a whole.
Draw from the theory readings that were the foundation for our course as the starting point of your biography and use your research to find and provide additional information about the country\’s people, language, and culture.
There is no minimum or maximum length to this paper. However, it is unlikely that you will be able to do a comprehensive job on this assignment in less than 3 pages. If your analysis and discussion exceeds 6 pages, my expectation is that the writing is still clear, focused, and concise in the way you are presenting your country\’s biography. Do not put in a lot of excess detail and filler.
