Week 10
COLLAPSE
Hello Everyone,
I have been in the Human Resources field for nearly 10 years, I started as an HR Coordinator and have had several roles within HR since, ranging from Employee Service, Benefits, HRIS and my current role, HR Operations. One of the main reason I returned to Berkeley to pursue my Bachelor\’s degree is that I was stuck in my career path, in order for me to obtain a management role within my current organization, I have to have a degree. My goal within the next year is to obtain a management level role. Upon graduation, I will begin to bid on management level roles within my organization. I plan to continue my career growth within the HR field, as I truly enjoy it. Within the next three years, my goal is to continue climbing the management ladder, gaining a much experience as possible and learning new skills.
In reading the article \”How Promotions Really Work\” the item that stood out the most to me was number 3- People know you — in a good way. I agree that establishing a good reputation and visibility will increase your chances at a promotion, especially when you are exposed to the right people.
\”Visibility and reputation can have a huge impact on whether you\’re promoted. You need to be \”seen\” — this means venturing outside of your normal, day-to-day responsibilities and building a network within your company. Exposure to the right people helps you set yourself up to show you\’re the best person for the promotion when it opens up.\”

Week 10
COLLAPSE
Hello everyone,
The articles this week were very informative. I would never think to bring up getting a promotion to my employer, because I would be scared they would say no. If I try to highlight my strengths and make it known that I desire a new position with new opportunities, this could help my supervisors see what I\’ve been doing and that I am serious about it. Also the article discussing the first job is very relevant. As I am about to graduate, I will be looking for a full-time position within my industry. My first job I want to work hard and earn the respect of my peers and employers. I feel like this will set me up for success throughout my career.
Within 3 years I hope to have a stable job that I find myself advancing in.
Working will help me find what positions are best suited for my skill sets as well as interest. Graduate school, if and when I attend, will help me apply my work experience to a higher education and build my business skills.
As I head out on my own, I have to remember to work hard and always look to improve myself. I have to be a team player, and also respect others I will work with.
This week\’s topic will focus on your career goals. Please refer to the information in the Week 10 Lectures and Required Resources tab and tell us about two items that have made an impression on you and how these items affect you going forward. Additionally, please answer the following questions:
Where do you see yourself in 1-3 years?
How will work or graduate school fit into your life\’s plan?
What will make you successful as you head out on your own?
Please make sure that you answer any questions that I post to your thread. Additionally, respond to the posts of at least two classmates.
you only need to write response for 2 students
