CSC424 C2 SRS and Design Review

Part 1: Review of Software Requirements Specifications

A Software Requirements Specification (SRS) is a key document that is used to support all other phases of a software development project. A good SRS must include key information for the project and should be prepared using industry recognized best practices for SRS documents. For this case study, you will locate, review, and evaluate an example SRS document. There are many appropriate SRS documents available on the Web that you may use for this case study, and your evaluation should address the following points:

How well does the SRS conform to best practices for preparation of requirements specifications?
What are the strengths of the SRS?
What are the weaknesses of the SRS?
What would you add or remove from the SRS? Be sure to justify your response to this question.

Part 2: Software Architecture and Design Review

The architecture and overall design of a software application can make the difference between success and failure. A poor architecture might prohibit an application from ever meeting the requirements established during the requirements phase, and a poor overall design will cause poor quality and failure of development goals. For this case study, you will review and evaluate the architecture and design of an open source software program.

Your review will examine DotNetNuke, a popular open source content management system. The complete source code and other resources for the latest version can be found at http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com/releases. In addition, you can find more information about this application at www.dotnetnuke.com.

Your evaluation should address the following points:

What is the architecture used in this application?
How well does the architecture match the type of application?
What are the major functional areas of the application?
What is the general design of each of the functional areas?
Summarize your overall opinion of the design and architecture of the application.

Forecasting Case Study: Urban Planning

Review attached \”Forecasting Case Study: Urban Planning\” for this topic\’s case study, in which you will serve as an urban planner forecasting economic growth and decline for a specific industry in your city.

Students must access the \”County Business Patterns\” webpage (https://www.census.gov/econ/cbp/index.html) for this assignment. Students will use this U.S. Census Industry data portal to access data for a zip code with which you are familiar. In this case, please use zip code 46256 (Indianapolis, Indiana).

In addition to the forecasting model and data, prepare a 500-word report to your city manager. Explain your approach and the rationale for why this is the best model. Evaluate the data and conclude your report with a recommendation about either expanding the industry in your area or allocating resources elsewhere.

Use an Excel spreadsheet file for the calculations and explanations. Cells should contain the formulas (i.e., if a formula was used to calculate the entry in that cell). Students are highly encouraged to use the attached \”Forecasting Template\” Excel resource to complete this assignment.

Prepare the written portion of the assignment in Microsoft Word, according to APA guidelines.

The following items will be assessed in particular:

A well-written report with a thorough description of your experiences and a strong argument for your reaction.
Your demonstrated effort in this assignment.

Ethics and the SEC

Part 1

Provide a final version of your IP4 submission. Ensure you have taken faculty comments and recommendations in consideration and the paper is APA formatted with cited references.
Then add section two as follows.
Part 2

Using the company\’s financial statements, calculate and evaluate the firms sustainable growth rate (SGR) for the last 23 years, and summarize your findings in your paper. Be sure to address the following:

What are the sustainable growth rates for your subject company over the period that you studied?
How do they compare with the actual growth rates that the company experienced over the period studied?
What are the consequences faced by firms that grow at a rate that is not consistent with their sustainable rate?
If the firm grew at a rate above or below the SGR, how did it finance its excessive growth or reward its stockholders for the underperformance?
Based on your analysis, do you believe the firm\’s growth strategy is sound and maximizes the value of the firm with reasonable levels of risk?
Be sure to document your statements with credible sources, in-text citations, and references using proper APA format.

Lab to analyze non-renewable energy sources.

For each assignment, you will use the M.U.S.E. link to complete the lab. Access the M.U.S.E. by clicking on Learning Materials.

In this lab, you will see the time progression of impacts associated with either coal-fired or nuclear power plants for electricity generation to help you write up a scientific paper that centers on the following:

Given that the current 2 primary sources of electricity generation are coal and nuclear power plants, which of these sources is better for human sustainability?
Analyze Energy Sources Lab

Everything people do in their daily lives involves the consumption of resourcesparticularly energy. With respect to energy, electricity is one of the most important resources consumed and also one of the highest in demand. Traditionally, fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and oil have dominated the U.S. energy mix; however, as it is well-known, carbon-emitting energy sources are very detrimental to the environment and are contributing to global warming. Fortunately, alternative energy resources such as solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal power are becoming more efficient and prevalent in todays energy economy.

Using the M.U.S.E. link, review the background information and gather your data.

Produce a sequential timeline, identifying the major policy statements or legislation that had significant effects on the enforcement of drug laws in the United States. The timeline should begin with the 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act and end at today\’s date. This project may contain a chart, detailing the significant statements and legislation, and should also contain significant narrative explanations. The narrative portion of the project should be at least two full pages of text. The narrative should also contain:

a detailed description of the event
an assessment of its impact on drug and/or alcohol control
public attitudes/responses to the event

CASE STUDY

Select one of the \”Major Cases\” from the DEA Web site and provide a review of that specific case. You will describe the law enforcement operations, enforcement strategies, subsequent prosecution of the case, etc. Also, you will relate the reported or projected impact of the case on drug supply reduction in the targeted jurisdiction. Supplemental research on this case is encouraged. This paper must be from three to five full pages of text, not including the cover page or references page.
