Dalton Conleys Honky is a memoir, but it is more than just a story. Conley also gives an analysis of his life and in doing so he gives offers some insights into how race and class are lived in America.

Write an essay in which you discuss the ways that Conley analyzes race and class in the book Honky. How does he do this? What is his over all argument and specifically how does he make it? (Cite 3 passages from Conleys text). What is he trying to say through his stories and his analysis? Discuss whether you think his book is effective in making his argument or not. Find at least one book review (from an academic source) of Honky. What does the reviewer think about the book? Give a brief summary and say whether you agree or disagree.

Find two articles (either from an academic journal or from another respected source) written in the past 10 years that deal with racial or class privilege. What are they saying about this topic? What are some of the common ideas floating around in the mainstream discussion about this topic? How is what \”they say\” connected to what Conley says?
