Module 1 – Case FOUNDATIONS: THE PERIODIC TABLE AND THE BASIC STRUCTURE OF SUBSTANCES

Assignment Overview
STOP!!! BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE READ THE BACKGROUND CHAPTERS AND VIEWED THE VIDEO LECTURES PROVIDED ON THE HOME PAGE! These lectures contain the background material necessary to complete the following laboratory exercises.

Now to review the concepts before beginning your laboratory simulations, work through each of the following tutorials on bonding:

Convalescent bonding I H, O, C, H2O

Covenant nonpolar bonds

Polar covenant bonds

Water and hydrogen bonding

Hydrogen Bonding III DNA and protein

Ionic bond

Water solvent, polar, properties, pH

To complete your Case 1 Assignment, use the links provided for each lab and follow the instructions provided. You will document your lab and discuss your observations by compiling your work as a Power Point presentation. Take screen shots as indicated in each set of instructions below. Paste your screen shots onto PowerPoint slides. Use the notes sections of the PowerPoint slides to describe the image you have placed on the slide, and to explain the results of each simulation or answer to specific questions. Include the Lab Title in the title section of each slide to organize your work. Include a Table of Contents slide at the beginning, and Conclusion and References slides at the end.

Lab 1: Build an Atom

https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/build-an-atom/latest/build-an-atom_en.html

Build a Hydrogen, Carbon, Nitrogen, and Oxygen atom.

Play each game: 1 4

Take screen shots of each element you build and the results of each game after you have played it. Explain what each screen shot depicts and include any points of interest that you learned from the games and/or lectures.

Lab 2: Acids and Bases

https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/acid-base-solutions/latest/acid-base-solutions_en.html

Begin with the following settings:

Solution: Water H2O

Views: Molecules

Insert the pH meter and record the results. Take a screenshot and use it as your image on your slide. In the notes section describe the proportion of H3O+ icons to OH- icons.

Repeat for each solution for Strong Acid, Weak Acid, Strong Base, and Weak Base

Be sure to report the pH and describe the proportion of H3O+ icons to OH- icons for each.

Now for Water, select Graph. Define equilibrium constant. Describe the differences in the graph for Water, Strong Acid, and Strong Base and what they mean.

Now make your own solution, using the My Solution simulation. Choose an initial concentration, report its mol/L and pH. Now make your solution stronger and weaker. Describe the changes that you observe in the concentration of each type of molecule highlighted by the magnifying glass.

Lab 3: Solutes and Concentrations
Summary Slides:

Now that you are an expert at atomic arrangement, the periodic table, and solutions, summarize the relationship between concentration, pH, and water. Where in the body is concentration of ions important? Where in the body is acidity important?

The Odd Couple( play by Neil Simon) for my Theater class

Critique Essay ( no need to have a source) that shows more of the authors personality. This does not excuse the author from covering important points that should be covered in a critique (like names of actors, the name of the show, important ideas that the show covers, etc) Have a point of view; state your mind and SUPPORT THIS
WITH EXAMPLES FROM THE PRODUCTION. Do not leave your commentary unsupported and remember,it is OK to not like what you saw but it is unacceptable to have no examples of what you did not like. Avoid using colloquial expressions and you had better have an excellent, undeniable, unquestionable reason for any use of profanity. P.S (I can send you an example of an crtique essay that the instructor sent us to know how should it be like please let me know if you want me to send it to you )

AMNT 280 4-5 Power Point Media Presentation: Fuel Injection Systems

Create a presentation and write-up (300-600 words) that associates psychological theory with substance use. Consider the following in your presentation and write-up:

What explanation can psychology give to explain the use of substances? Be sure to include the media influences that are represented in your poster (e.g., advertisements for the drug, or PSA clips against the drug) as well as information presented in the text or other Internet sources.
What health hazards are associated with the use of the substances represented in your poster?
Is addiction to this drug treatable using psychological techniques? Why or why not? What techniques might be useful?
At Least two scholarly sources must be used in addition to the text. These can be websites as long as they are scholarly in nature.

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

You are not required to submit this assignment to Turnitin.

EXTRA CREDIT PROJECT
The following project is designed to give you an opportunity to become acquainted with data analysis software programs such as SPSS and Excel. In addition, you will be exposed to writing a results section in formatting required by the American Psychological Association.
The gender wage gap has been well reported throughout modern United States history. Historically, men have earned more than women even after the Equal Pay Act of 1963. Even after accounting for job type and educational level, women still make less.
The following set of data were taken from the US Census Bureau and reported by the National Committee on Pay Equity. You will conduct an independent samples t-test between the wages of men and women from 2004 2014 and conclude whether or not this difference in pay is statistically significant. You are responsible for inputting the data into the software program of your choice, and analyzing the data. In addition, you will choose one article relevant to the topic of the gender wage gap and compare your findings to the article.

Step 1: Follow the link to retrieve the data set: http://www.pay-equity.org/info-time.html
When inputting data, use the chart titled wage gap over time and use only the first two columns.

Conduct an independent measures t-test using the first five wages for women and men.

Step 2: After conducting the analysis, follow the next steps.
In the first paragraph:
A.Explain the steps that were taken in completing the analysis (i.e. what type of test was used, what were your groups)?
B.What was the n of each group? Standard deviation of each group? Means of each group?
C.Determine what conclusions can be made. In one or two sentences, summarize the findings in APA formatting.
AN EXAMPLE OF THIS: As predicted, results from an independent samples t test indicated that individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia (M = .76, SD = .20, N = 10) scored much higher (i.e., less logically consistent) on the sorting task than college students (M = .17, SD = .13, N = 9), t(17) = 7.53, p < .001, two-tailed Your t-test is about the difference in wage between men and women. Therefore, you will have the mean and standard deviation for mens wages, and the mean and standard deviation for womens wages. Where it says t(17), 17 is the degrees of freedom of the two groups (n-2). The link below can tell you the different information that is being provided there. http://statistics-help-for-students.com/How_do_I_report_independent_samples_T_test_data_in_APA_style.htm#.Vx2vtTArKM8 D.What do the findings mean using non-statistical words? In the second paragraph: E.What may have been potential limitations of the data set? F.Using one article of your choice, summarize the main point(s) of the article. G.Compare your current findings to the article. More specifically, does your data support the conclusions that have been reported in the news? Why or why not?

WeaveTech

Please follow the instructions in the sample case study file.
The file tabled (Sample case analysis) contains the structures that the case study should follow, bellow it is a sample case of how the final paper should look like.
The structure should be :
Step 1: Get a general impression
Step 2: Start to analyse seriously (*So you will now have built up a picture of the relative strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) for the organization.)
Step 3: Develop and Evaluate Strategic Options
Step 4: Justify your conclusions with reference to the case
Step 5: Present a balanced view

The document labels (WeaveTech) is the case that should be analysed based on the previous instructions and format.
