Write a 750-1000 word type-written essay discussing the dominant issues surrounding homelessness.

Homeless Assignment:

Weve read numerous essays on homelessness, and you have done quizzes on them in the FORUM and should be familiar with the relevant themes.

I have given you the dominant themes, marginalization of the homeless, fear of the homeless, not knowing the history of the homeless, making the homeless into an abstraction, our moral obligation to the homeless, our existential obligation to the homeless, and mistaking control for compassion for the homeless. Its time for you to create topic sentence from these themes, and then develop these topic sentences into topic paragraphs. You will need at least FIVE topic paragraphs, six including the thesis / introductory paragraph.

In this assignment, you will write a 750-1000 word type-written essay discussing the dominant issues surrounding homelessness. Remember to use the topics we have discussed. You may provide footnotes for this essay.

Purpose:

This assignment requires that you look at materials from the readings and integrate them into a cohesive essay. You should see how the essays we have read are related to the various themes on homelessness. You have to compare and contrast the ideas in various essays and discuss how they have in some ways affected our social attitudes toward the homeless. Instead of abstract notions about the homeless, you have to use the ideas we have read thus far to do this assignment. It is imperative that you consider the ideas deeply.

Organization:

Your essay should have a clear Thesis Paragraph that embodies a brief discussion of the ideas you want to develop for the rest of the essay. Underline the Thesis Statement.

The subsequent paragraphs [at least fivewith textual supports from two sources] should have clear topic sentences, each addressing a dominant theme about the homeless. Do not state the obvious; instead, show how the essays we have read support or contradict Marins ideas, and in the essay, you should develop your personal commentaries. You may use personal experiences and observations as further textual supports or commentaries, but make sure it is relevant and connected to your topic. You should use the topic paragraph you had posted in the FORUM, with some revisions, for this assignment. Each of these paragraphs must be like the topic paragraph format we worked on.

Please make sure you refer closely to the format of how to write the topic sentences, topic paragraphs, thesis statement, and thesis paragraph as you write your essay.

The Constitution

The weekly worksheets will help you build all of the necessary parts for your Final Paper. It is recommended that you review the Learning Activity assignments and review the Final Paper prompt before beginning this assignment. This week, you will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the most important document for Americas national government, the US Constitution. In the worksheet, you will describe one strength and one weakness of the Constitution. In addition, you will need to recommend a way to maintain the strength of this important document and a way to correct a weakness. This effort begins the process of critically analyzing key features of our national government.

The Constitution
You are required to develop four paragraphs that explain one strength and one weakness of the US Constitution, as well as provide an option to maintain the strength and to correct the weakness presented.

Scholarly Support
In-text citations must be included in your paragraphs. The additional resources must be utilized to support your ideas and cited using APA format. For assistance with your research, the Ashford Universitys Library provides tutorials and recorded webinars on a variety of topics. To access these helpful resources, look for the links located under the FindIt@AU search box on the library home page. For help with writing and citations, please review the handouts and tutorials provided by the Ashford Writing Center.

A reference list of at least two scholarly resources from the Ashford University Library with full APA citations is required. While your textbook can be utilized as a source, it does not count towards your two sources for this assignment. Two new sources should be utilized each week to meet the minimum of eight required sources for the final. By finding and supporting your material with these sources each week, you will have the research necessary to construct a strong Final Paper.

Be sure that the sources you are utilizing to support your ideas are valid, reliable, and not overly biased.

What are the major conflicts in The Aeneid? Go beyond just Dido and Aeneas, Greeks and Trojans, to consider other less obvious ones. What types of conflicts (physical, moral, intellectual, or internal) can you detect? Describe the conflict(s), and resolution if there is one, in detail with multiple references to the text in your response.

Logically, then, if improvement in quality of life is incremental and continuous, the shift in the payback burden should also be continuous? Do you agree?

1. On the issue of generational imbalance, at least modest generational imbalance- borrowing and spending today at a rate that shifts part of the pay back burden to future generations-is often perceived as acceptable. The rationale put forth is that the present generation improves the quality of life for future generations in tangible (smart phones, tablet computers, 3D printing, 3 car garages ) and intangible ways (longer and healthier life span, smoking ban in public spaces, more acceptance of diversity..) and so it is only fair that the future generation bears this burden.

2. Martin Wolf, chief economics commentator for the Financial Times, wrote in an article in Foreign Policy (October 30, 2009):

In the advanced market economies, people care deeply about eliminating pain and injustice and ensuring the welfare of fellow humans. This concern exists because a rich, liberal society places enormous emphasis on the health and well-being of the individual. Life is no longer nasty, brutish, and short; rather, it is gentle, kind, and long, and more precious than before.

This passage reminds me of a disturbing phenomenon that you may have noticed in your sojourns outside of advanced market economies or even if you have seen the recent movie \’Slumdog Millionaire\’- and Ill put it bluntly with the usual caveat of a broad generalization- people in these places often are more cruel and apathetic to the conditions of their fellow citizens. Growing up (and above) a mass of people in Calcutta whose lives were indeed nasty, brutish and short, I never quite understood why the Westerners were such suckers- falling easy prey to the hordes of beggars that gathered outside their hotel gates. Yes, I too would give now and then, but not see things with the same eyes, nor with the belief that life is supposed to be gentle, kind and long, and more precious than before.

So, a related question would be: as market economy expands to embrace more and more traditional societies, would morality in the sense discussed above expand in the consciousness of more and more people?
