Discuss the 3 literary pieces you choose and write what you have learned about choices you will face and priorities or values you will use in making those choices.

For this essay, you will be assessed on both the level of your insights and the clarity of your expression. In other words, you ought to use appropriate diction, structure, and punctuation. You should demonstrate an understanding of the texts you choose ( Elegy written in A Country Churchyard by Thomas Gray, Apostrophe to the Ocean by George Gordon, and Letters to his son by Lord Chesterfield).

What I learned from the literary pieces:

\”Elegy in A Country Churchyard\”: Everybody comes from different places, treat everybody with respect, not a small thing to not be known ( limited from Greatness)

\”Letters to His Son\”: How to treat women, How to treat others, How to behave and interact with society.

\”Apostrophe to the Ocean\”: That nature is always superior to the humans, The power of God.

describe each paragraph connect to the one previous to it and to the thesis for the paper?

Purpose: To give the writer the opportunity to learn more about a career that he/she is interested in and what he/she needs to do to prepare for a future in this area. To provide the writer with experience conducting research, evaluating sources, integrating multiple sources into his/her writing, and writing a longer paper.

Assignment:

Thesis: This paper will focus on a career field, major area of study, or profession that you plan to pursue or have an interest in. Therefore, your research paper needs to have a clear and specific thesis that addresses the question: \”What must I do in order to successfully reach my career/professional goal?\” (Hint: remember that a good way to create a thesis is to form a question and then answer that question. To form your thesis for your research paper, I advise you to turn the above question into a statement.)

Support: Your paper needs to be supported with varied and valid research. You will need to incorporate into your paper a minimum of three sources, two of which are from the library. These may include the Internet, pamphlets, reference materials from the library, an on-line database source (pro quest), newspaper articles, college catalogs, films, etc.

Organization: You will want to choose a format that best fits your content. For many of you, this will probably be in the structure of a process essay that goes step by step through the process you will need to take to reach your goal. Organizing by categories might also work with a category for education, job experience, personal characteristics, etc. Make sure that the content and structure match, and the paper overall stays on topic. You will also want to incorporate strong paragraph structure, and the paper will need an introduction and conclusion.

Format: This paper should be 4-5 pages in length. It needs to be typed, double spaced, in 12 point font, with 1 inch margins all around. No cover sheet is needed.

Citations: All sources in your paper need to be correctly cited using MLA guidelines. This includes parenthetical citations within the text of your paper. You will not need to do a Works Cited page at the end of the paper. (This will be a good goal to learn in your next writing class.)
