Annotated Bibliography
Objectives:
o Locate academic sources in the social sciences
o Evaluate academic sources
o Summarize and critique academic sources
o Review and practice APA style and documentation
Introduction:
An annotated bibliography allows a writer and/or researcher to view multiple perspectives on a common topic. The annotations verify a sources relevance, accuracy, and overall use as a research tool.
The annotated bibliography contains three parts: (1) the citation, (2) the summary, and (3) the critique of the source.
Think of an annotated bibliography as a reference page with added notes. This means the sources on the annotated bibliography should be alphabetized. Below each citation entry, summarize and critique the source. The summary objectively presents the works main points, and the critique evaluates its use, its limitations, and its credibility. Structurally, the summary and critique are sometimes integrated into a single paragraph.
Assignment:
For this assignment you will created an annotated bibliography of three academic sources centered around your course theme. These sources must all be from the social sciences, so be sure to use the proper research methods and tools. The annotated bibliography (AB) will focus on the social sciences, so please use APA style. When annotating sources, consider the authors expertise on the topic, the currency of the article, use of illustrations (such as charts), and how effectively the source highlights the research theme.
Requirements:
o 3 academic sources from the social sciences
o APA citation preceding each annotation
o Annotations of 100-200 words, to include summary and critique
o APA style/documentationincluding a cover sheet and running header o Times New Roman, 12-point font
o Double-spaced

Include information in your paper from past discussions, videos, previous assignments, the textbook(I can add these in) and additional outside resources. You can reference previous political, technological, social and legislative trends. All sources must be cited properly.

The following explains what I will be looking for when grading this paper: Scoring Guide IHP Semester Long Research Project Be sure to cite your sources both within your paper (parenthetical citations) and at the end in the form of a Work Cited using the MLA citation format. Once you submit your paper, go back into the Grade Center about 10 minutes later and look at the SA Report score. I cannot accept a paper with an SA score more than 40%. The SA Report tells us what percentage of your paper was taken directly from outside sources. If your paper has an SA score higher than 40%, you can make corrections and resubmit your paper to the Grade Center until the due date for this assignment has passed. I will not review any submitted papers with an SA score higher than 40%.

A research paper blends your own ideas and information from expert sources. It is NOT a series of direct quotations strung together. Your goal is not to collect everything you can find out about a subject and summarize it. Although you should review as much material as possible, you should select sources that directly support your thesis. The focus of your paper is your point of view, your commentary. Direct quotations, facts, and statistics may be woven throughout your paper, but they should support your position. Your commentary should do more than simply introduce or link quotations. Research papers must use documentation methods to prevent you from plagiarizing sources. Do not borrow ideas, statistics, or facts without noting their original source.

The case study paper is a description of a particular environmental issue and some facts associated with it. These facts may include causes and consequences of the issue and the policies adopted to address it. It is also possible to describe one particular policy and explain how it addresses environmental issues in one African region or country (Kenya). You may, for example, want to describe the implementation of a policy to address a particular environmental issue. The case study is a description of a known case.
The case study is not, however, a mere description of facts. Therefore, you are required to demonstrate critical thinking and analytical skills throughout the entire paper. In doing so, you are required to compare the viewpoints of different authors on a similar subject and give your own opinion about it. You are required to find different sources of information where one or more authors state their viewpoints on one particular subject relevant to your topic. To show your critical thinking, it may also be interesting to inquire about the reasons behind the opinion of the authors. The student may draw a conclusion by comparing these viewpoints and state his or her own opinion based on prior knowledge or analysis.

The case study should include the following:
– Title page,
– Abstract,
– Introduction,
– Main body of the paper composed of at least three sections,
– Conclusion and
– References.

– Written assignment format: Your case study and research proposal assignments should be in word document (.doc or .docx), double spaced except the abstract and references, page numbered and in Times New Roman 12 points.
