Compare and contrast the frameworks for competitor analysis proposed in the readings from Porter and from Dixit and Nalebuff.

Case: Philips Compact Disc Introduction (B), 9-792-036

In solving the Philips case, be aware of what assumptions you are making, and whether your results are robust to (small) changes in these assumptions.
Compare and contrast the frameworks for competitor analysis proposed in the readings from Porter and from Dixit and Nalebuff.

Should Philips establish a U.S. plant at the beginning of 1983 or wait a year before deciding? Why or why not? (You need to crunch numbers here!) Do not try to draw a game tree! In this case, solving the problem without a tree is much easier.

For this week\’s discussion you need to read Glaukon\’s Challenge (referred to as the Ring of Gyges) from The Republic. The question you must answer is:
Glaucon (Ring of Gyges) says that we obey the laws only from fear of punishment. Provide four reasons for obeying the law or ethical principles that do not involve punishment or reward. Is there a difference between people who obey the law out of fear and those who obey the law out of a sense of duty or character? What are those differences? When is it acceptable not to obey the laws? What types of laws ought we obey and which ought we disregard?

In this excerpt, from Platos Republic (sometimes referred to as the Ring of Gyges passage),Glaukon and Socrates are having a dialogue about whether justice (morality) is something good and valuable in itself. Socrates maintains that it is, and to challenge him Glaukon offers the story of the Ring of Gyges, which is supposed to show that no one would continue to act justly if they had the power to freely do otherwise. Glaukon thinks that this can show that injustice is by nature better than justice.

A literature review is a critical analysis of published sources, or literature, on a particular topic. It is an assessment of the literature and provides a summary, classification, comparison and evaluation. The literature review is generally in the format of a standard essay made up of three components: an introduction, a body and a conclusion. It is not a list like an annotated bibliography in which a summary of each source is listed one by one.

Your introduction should give an outline of why you are writing a review, and why the topic is important and the scope of the review what aspects of the topic will be discussed

Each body paragraph should deal with a different theme that is relevant to your topic and show a clear connection between the various sources.

Your conclusion should give a summary of the main agreements and disagreements in the literature, any gaps or areas for further research, and your overall perspective on the topic.

Please make appropriate revisions in your Final Draft. See attached example paper with sample literature review beginning on page 3.
