The Leader as Communicator

Can you imagine an effective leader who is not an effective communicator? Leadership communication skills are very important. Some would call effective communication the most important leadership competency. Without the skills of effective communication, you will not be an effective leader, especially in this complex, fast-paced environment. It is important for the leader to create an environment of open communication where ideas, solutions, and problems can all be discussed without fear. When employees understand that communication is open and encouraged, they will perform better. Using the assigned readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research communication competencies required for leaders. Then, respond to the following:By , post your responseWrite your initial response in 300–500 words (Does NOT need to be duble spaced). Your response should be thorough and address all components of the discussion question in detail, include citations of all sources, where needed, according to the APA Style, and demonstrate accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation

The art abstraction

Please post a thoughtful response to the following:

Think of your local grocery store as an abstraction. What is it an abstraction of?
What are the benefits of thinking of it as an abstraction?
Are there any drawbacks to this approach?
Look at the elements that the grocery store is an abstraction of and think of them as abstractions as well. What are they abstractions of?
Continue this process a few more levels.
Can we make any generalizations about the use of abstractions and human progress?

For this Discussion, think about the connections between social work and human behavior and consider why it is relevant to social work practice.

The types of issues and concerns that children, and adolescents, present to social workers are as varied as the people themselves. Understanding how individuals behave in their particular environment will shed some light on their current challenges, but this alone is not enough. Social workers must know how to ask the right questions, as the answers will inform decisions about which resources may be most helpful.  For this Discussion, think about the connections between social work and human behavior and consider why it is relevant to social work practice.

Healthcare Facilities Mgmt

The CEO of North Eastern Hospital (NEH), Jim James, had been playing the waiting game, assuming that he had plenty of time to prepare for how his institution would be impacted by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). When the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of President Obama’s signature legislation in June 2012, Jim realized he and his staff needed to quickly rethink the hospital’s position and shift strategies. While they had initially seen the health care reform provisions of the ACA as burdensome, now he wanted the staff to think about the opportunities that it offered and how it could enhance NEH and help it to fulfill its mission in serving the community. The more Jim read and thought about the provisions of the new law, the more convinced he became of the benefits. Since a primary goal of the ACA was to bring the uninsured into coverage, large numbers of uninsured into the community would soon have access to care. And, with insurance companies being required to provide coverage for those with pre-existing conditions, those patients would also have access. There were many negative stereotypes associated with both groups. While some of these people were indeed very ill, it was also clear that the fact that people didn’t have insurance did not necessarily mean they were sick. In reality, many were healthy individuals who, for whatever reason, were uninsured. Some were seasonal workers in organizations that didn’t provide coverage to their employees, others opted not to buy coverage, and there were those who just could not afford it and would now be subsidized. Additionally, some with pre-existing conditions had in the past been denied insurance coverage on the basis of relatively minor problems, such as sinusitis, a prior knee injury, removal of a small benign tumor, and so on.This looked to Jim like a bonanza. Jim wanted to find ways to connect these groups to his hospital, as well as its associated outpatient clinics and excellent pool of physicians and other health care professionals. This led him to thinking about new programs, modifying existing programs, developing marketing strategies, finding ways to capitalize on the pent-up demand for services in the short run, and becoming the provider of choice in the long run.

Discussion—Transformational Leadership

Change is considered by many as the new normal. Effective change management must be part of an organization’s DNA. An emerging leadership style called the transformational style has been shown to be effective in this environment, especially in leading change. This form of leadership goes beyond traditional forms of leadership which relied mainly on centralized control. It emphasizes more open communication, collaboration, and participation by employees. Using the assigned readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research the transformational style of leadership. Then, respond to the following:By , post your response to.Write your initial response in 300–500 words.
