You are an analyst of a PE fund and your VP wants you to help him to write a short paper about the investment opportunity in sustainable seafood.
Background:
Company K is a Hong Kong incorporated company since 2013. It has 2 main businesses trading of sustainable seafood and operating a fusion style, mainly western, restaurant in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, Company Ks product is already available in supermarket chain like Yata, ParkN Shop and will soon entering AEON etc. It has also recently incorporated a subsidiary in PRC and obtained all the relevant licences for seafood trading. Working capital demand for dealing with large supermarket chain is high and Company K is now facing a bottleneck for its growth.
Reported by Telegraph, UK in 2006, as a result of overfishing, it was predicted that every speices of wild-caught seafood will collapse by 2050.
Awareness of sustainable seafood is increasing, for example Marriott Hotel Group has a directive for 50% of its seafood to derive from sustainable sources by 2018, and Hyatt and Starwood are moving in the same direction. (http://www.bangkokpost.com/print/440200/).
You are requested to write a short paper that covers investment opportunity in this area to discuss whether Company K is a worthwhile opportunity for PE investment with a focus in risks of this potential investment as well as what are the best development strategies for its China initiatives.
