You will be required to write one 5 pages essay on the topic of your choice. As we work our

This project will pull together the information we cover in this class; it will count as 120 points (12%) of your overall grade. There are several parts of this project; some parts can be completed very quickly, others will take more time. Be sure you have completely read through the instructions before you begin collecting data. At the end this document is the grading rubric.

Have you ever wondered if the claims made by companies/governments/organizations are true? For this project, you will be given a chance to test these claims.

There will undoubtedly be many questions that arise as you go through this project. Part of that is by designI want to you experience many of the intricacies of designing and conducting an observational study, including data collection and analysis. Its all a positive thingand, more importantly, realistic in the life of a statistician. In your final write-up for the project, be sure to clearly state any assumptions you had to or chose to make.
*NOTE: Throughout this project, write as if you are communicating to a general audience!!! Do NOT assume that what you are writing will be read by a bunch of statisticians. For example, write a report that your grandmother could understand.
TO GET STARTED: Choose a claim from a reputable source. You need to submit this claim to your instructor for approval before you begin the rest of the project!
Example Claim: The National Association of College and Employers claims the average salary
Offered to 2010 graduates is $48,351.

PART I
Collect the data from 100 people to test your chosen claim. For example, if you were using the claim from above, then you would get at least 100 people who graduated from college in 2010 to tell you their average salary upon graduation. Collect your data in any way you wish, via email, Survey Monkey, Facebook, etc.

Write a BRIEF (no more than 2, type-written pages) summary of your general conclusions about the data you have collected. Include your summary any conjectures about the claim. The summary should incorporate the charts/graphs/tables from Excel within your report.

In this course, we are not able to discuss every communication technology. Notable absences are radio, newspapers, cinema, photography, and music, among many others. For this assignment, you are required to find an episode of a television show or a film with an ethical dilemma.
Your first paragraph should contain the title of the show/film, introduce the character(s), explain the moral dilemma and include the theory that you are using (one theory). In addition, provide any necessary background information that I might need to know in the first paragraph. Background information should not exceed 150 words.
For this paper, you must demonstrate knowledge of two theories. You argue for one position. Then, you take a critics position and argue for another theory. Lastly, you explain why the criticism fails.

I must have access to the television show or film. I have access to both Netflix and Amazon. A YouTube clip will also work, but please cite the film AND include the YouTube link. Chapter 6 of the Mooz text provides an algorithm for identifying types of decisions and provides a road map for matching decision models to the characteristics needed when using each model.

Pick a critical decision from your own life and one of the decision models in chapter 7 or 8 (e.g., Fact Based in chapter 7) and complete the road map suggested for that model. Completing the road map requires that you identify the name of the specific method that should be used, for example, Fact based=>Rank Sums Process. For the characteristics you need to identify both the type of characteristics (e.g. Criteria ranking sums) and the specifics (e.g. listing the criterion for each alternative and the resulting sums).
