Topic: Explicate a poem of 10-20 lines from our textbook. This means that you will analyze it line by line. Choose one from the list of poems provided at the end of this document. Ask yourself the following questions prior to writing your essay: What is enjoyable about the poem? What is confusing? Are there any figures of speech? Is there any irony or imagery? Are any words central to the meaning of the poem or are there words that have more than one meaning? Do you know the definitions of these words? How many speakers are there? Is there a transition from one speaker to the next? What symbolism can you detect? You may also choose any of the poems from \”Poems for Further Reading\” (816-887) in the textbook that we have not yet covered and that are 10-20 lines. Refrain from choosing poems that have already been analyzed in course materials.

Format and MLA: Type the poem at the beginning of your essay (single-spaced; flush left) and use it as a guide. Use Modern Language Association (MLA) guidelines to format your essay and cite sources; your grade will reflect your knowledge of this material be merciless in your attention to detail. You must include a works cited page. Tip: Read several poems by the same poet.

Research Components:

Dictionary
Investigate and include definitions of words in a poem by looking them up in a dictionary, such as Merriam-Websters Collegiate Dictionary or the American Heritage Dictionary. The Oxford English Dictionary will help you with the etymology of a word: The history of a linguistic form (as a word) shown by tracing its development since its earliest recorded occurrence in the language where it is found (Etymology). All dictionaries are located on the second floor of the library in the reference section. You may NOT use pocket dictionaries or Dictionary.com as they are not extensive enough for this assignment. If you choose to use inappropriate resources, your grade will be reduced. You must include at least THREE definitions from the dictionary. Tip: Look up words you know as well.

Biography
Locate a biography of the author and examine how this information enhances your explication of the poem. When was the poem written? What was the poet doing at this time in his or her life? What are the cultural or historical implications of the time period? How does the biography provide additional insight into why and how the poem was written regarding the poets style? Choose a full-length critical biography from one of the literature-based databases, such as Literature Resource Center, MagillOn Literature Plus, or Artemis. If you choose to use inappropriate resources, your grade will be reduced. You must include at least TWO quotations from the poets biography. Tip: Read multiple biographies as each one will have different information.

3. Academic article

Choose an academic article related to your poem in order to enhance your analysis. For example, you could locate an article from the Poetry for Students series in the Literature Resource Center database. The article must come from the library\’s databases. See above.

The poem I chose is \”Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening\” by Robert Frost. I have attached sources for the Academic Article and Biography requirement. See instructions above for the dictionary requirement. Also, I attached a sample essay.

Hischornklinik Group is a leading private medical clinic group in Germany. It relies on Information Systems to operate 14 hospital, as well as hundreds of specialist institutes. Demand for additional servers and storage technology is growing by 20 percent each year. Hischornklinik was setting up a separate server for every application, and its servers and other computers were running a number of different operating systems, including several versions of UNIX and Windows. Hischornklink had to manage technologies from many different vendors, including Hewlett-Packard (HP), Sun Microsystems, Microsoft and IBM.
Using the concepts discussed on the Management Information System, assess the impacts of this situation on business performance.
Identify and explain which factors and management decisions must be considered when developing a solution to this problem?
Part Two: (500 words)
Iko Instruments Group, a global supplier of measurement, analytical, and monitoring instruments and services based in the Netherlands, had a new data warehouse designed to analyse customer activity to improve service and marketing. However, the data warehouse was full of inaccurate and redundant data. The data in the warehouse come from numerous transaction processing systems in the United States., Europe, Asia, and other locations around the world. The team that designed the warehouse has assumed that sales groups in all these areas would enter customer names, telephone numbers, and addresses the same way. In fact, companies in different countries were using multiple ways of entering quote, billing, shipping, contact information and other data.
Assess the potential business impacts of these data quality problems.
What decisions have to be made, explain and justify the steps taken to reach a solution?

Part Three (1100 words)
Consider one of the following businesses: Ryanair Airline; Pallas Food Supplier (wholesale food suppliers, Dublin); Dealership Hyundai ( Dublin); Marks &Spencer retail shop(Dublin);
Discuss the importance of Information System used by the Company and how it can contribute to operational excellence and the company strategies.

The Summary Section

Before writing your paragraph summarizing your selected article, be sure to prepare by completing the Summarizing and Paraphrasing topic in this weeks MyReadingLab and also by reading the Summarize and Paraphrase section in this weeks Lecture. The Lecture will help you to see how PIE can be used to write a focused academic summary.

The Reaction Section

Directly following your summary, write a paragraph responding to the argument presented by the author. In this response section, you can agree, disagree, challenge, or do all of the above. However, it is important that you continue to use PIE in order to provide one clear response, support it with an Illustration, and Explain your reasons. Again, the Lecture will help you to do this.

Paper Requirements

After reviewing the Lecture and writing your summary and response, use this checklist to make sure you have completed the requirements.

A successful Summary/Reaction Paper will do the following.

Have a summary paragraph that
introduces the author and title of the article;
focuses on the thesis as presented by the author in his or her article;
paraphrase a key example or Illustration that shows proof that the author makes the claim you have identified;
provides a parenthetical citation for the article cited that follows the following template: (authors last name, year published, page or paragraph number). Here is an example of an entry using page, followed by one with a paragraph number: (Pollan, 2006, p. 59) and (Jones, 2010, para. 4);
includes transition words and sentences that help your reader to see how one idea connects to the next;
f. uses your own words to present additional information from the article that explains what you see (that led you to identify the authors thesis)
is at least 100 words in length; and
uses basic APA formatting, as described below.
Have a reaction paragraph that
uses a Point/Topic Sentence to focus your paragraph on one key response you have to the authors argument;
provides one or two clear Illustrations or examples that support your response;
explains how those Illustrations/examples prove your side (i.e., your response) of the argument and ties things back to the original argument to which you are responding;
is at least 100 words in length; and
uses basic APA formatting, as described below.

You will develop a summary that I can use within an evidence-based practice (EBP) committee regarding the clinical practice guidelines related to sepsis in the Emergency Room. This paper will be 5 pages in length. Search the literature and evidence-based practice websites and databases to find a recent clinical practice guideline (no more than 5 years) related to the issue you select.

Your essay should focus on the relationship between human rights produced and enforced at an international level and human rights as a discourse that victims use to make claims and promote rights consciousness at the local level.

Complete a shot breakdown chart of the scene you have selected. Below is a sample (at least 30 shots).

Introduction:
Provide background information on the film you have selected. You will need to do some research for this. Who is the director? When and where was this film made? Is it related to a film movement? What kind of film is this: a documentary, experimental film, fictional narrative film? What genre(s) might this film fall into? Provide any other relevant information about this film?
Thesis statement: This is your argument. The thesis statement should explain the relevance of the scene you have selected. How does it connect with the rest of the film and its narrative? What is the importance of the scene and its relation to other scenes? Is it a major turning point? How does the scene support the films theme(s)?

Part 1:
Write a brief description of the selected scene.
Explain what is so important about the succession of shots that comprises the scene? Analyze (dont just describe) the shots mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, acting, and sound. How do these stylistic elements work together to create emotional and intellectual effects?
Discuss how the shots work together and separately:
How is meaning created and imparted to the viewer?
How do the shots convey information and characterization?
Why might these particular shots have been used? What gives them impact?
How is meaning built up in the scene?

Part 2:
How does this scene relate to other scenes; think of the form of the film. How does the scene relate to the theme you have selected to focus on?
How does the scene relate to the form of the film? Is it part of a repetitive pattern? Part of the development of the film? Explain the scenes relation to the theme created through the form.
How does the scene relate to the Narrative? Is there a 3-act structure? How does it relate to the character goals? Does this film follow a Classical Hollywood Narrative? Where does your scene fit into this narrative?

Conclusion:
And, lastly return to your thesis by broadening your scene analysis to the rest of the film. Explain the significance of analyzing this one scene.
Explain why analyzing this one scene is important in the interpretation and analysis of the film as a whole.

Do not:

Discuss the plot in detail. Your reader has already seen the film you are writing about;
Just list and describe the shots;
Use extensive quotations or lines of dialogue for your analysis;
Repeat yourself.

Shot Breakdown:

In addition to the 7-9 page paper (at least 2,300 words), provide a shot breakdown for the scene you have selected to analyze in list, column, or table form that includes the following information. You can create this as a list (look below) or as a table.

Shot number (you will assign each shot a number).
Mise-en-scene: Describe the setting, the props, the lighting, the costumes, etc.
Cinematography: camera distance (e.g. LS [long shot], MS [medium shot], CU [closeup]….). Is the camera moving or is it stable? Is the lens wide or long?
Editing: describe the editing? Is it following a classical Hollywood structure? Is it fast-paced?
Acting and dialogue: is the acting convincing? Does the diagloue provide insight into the themes?
Sounds, Music, Narration and/or Titles: Describe the diegetic and non-diegetic elements of the film.
