Questions for the Richard Coke Review:
1. In what way, specifically, did Hiram Johnson embody Progressive reform? List 4 ways and discuss each one separately, linking to and citing from the Rawlss text.
2. What themes in California history are connected to Johnsons life both personal and political? List at least 3 and explore each theme and its tie to this important political figure.
3. Lets take three current issues in California politics and society: 1.) immigration, 2.) the state budget shortfall and deadlock, and 3.) President Obamas financial reform plan. If Johnson were still alive, how would he respond to two of these three issues? In your answer, support all of your general points by referring to what youve learned of the man in Rawls and Professor Richard Coke\’s review.
4. Think of todays political scene. What politician is today similar to Johnson? In what way? Dig a little here, do some research, and see what you come up with.
