Building on from Assignment 1 and the practice issue you identified, this next assessment task requires you to discuss and evaluate the relevant research knowledge in your chosen field of social work practice. Completing this task will enable you to critically analyse key approaches to research; show that you can evaluate research literature and understand ethical research.
Task:
Assignment 2 requires you to:
Describe the practice issue you outlined in AT1 (20%): building on AT1, provide a description and discussion of the social problem you seek to research, including:
what prompted your concern about this issue in professional practice
the context of this issue: relevant background information; ways of thinking about this issue; current concerns/debates, and
a brief statement about your views on this issue and how you will manage these throughout the research process
Review (50%):
review and evaluate the findings presented by the 5 pieces of published research[1] you have chosen which examine your practice issue, with attention to how these findings have been formulated
include a clear rationale for the choice of this material: assuming that Not all information is good, not everything which might look like research actually fulfils the quality standards of research and not all published research is good quality research (Hewitt-Taylor, 2011:29) describe how you have ensured that the papers you have included are of sufficient quality and relevant to your area of concern, making reference to the reading by Hewitt-Taylor (2011)
identify current trends and gaps in knowledge, to formulate a research question
Research Question (15%): the research question you wish to address, including definitions of the questions key terms and a clear rationale for the research focus, commenting on
connections to the existing research literature
the needs of the human service organisation in which you observed this issue
researcher paradigm, making specific reference to the core text (Chapter 2)
Communicating ideas:
A brief reflective statement which shows how you have incorporated the feedback provided on AT1 into this assignment (5%)
Attention to the presentation of the paper: ensuring you reference and cite correctly and demonstrate the use of appropriate academic language (10%)
