Technological developments in the aviation industry pose a significant challenge in the achievement of our vision. Dramatic technological developments could outstrip our ability to train staff and redeploy resources. Among the developments we expect are increased use of composite materials to enhance fuel efficiencies, increasingly complex avionics and increased ultra long range operations (ETOP). As these and other technologies become widely used, GCAA staff will need to be fully engaged in learning about developments in these areas in order to effectively exercise their regulatory role and produce recommendations that continue to raise the bar on safety.
