Using online or library research (and articles enclosed), explain the various view and data behind the salad blow versus melting pot analysis. What are the differences (compare Canada and the US using such research) between these two types of policies for incoming immigrants? How do these approaches encourage or discourage civic participation among immigrants and minorities in the US?

Next, read the New Migrants and Citizenship article (analyzing voting behavior of Naturalized Citizens). Afterwards, explain some of the transformative leadership and participatory strategies (information from Module 1, the discussions) that you would push to increase the engagement of migrants in the voting process. Think about the people you have known or observed engaging in deviant behavior (no names, please!) and explain how some of these theories might help you understand their behavior. Which theory do you think best explains the behavior and why? Supreme Court Justice Brandeis wrote that the founding fathers believed that to think and speak as you wish were indispensable for the countrys political system to flourish. He went on to say that the greatest menace to freedom is an inert people. Write an essay using this observation from Brandeis to comment on how important civil liberties are to the principles of the United States and to sustaining those principles in times of fear and war in America. Include examples of when civil liberties were expanded and when they were limited to illustrate when American has lived up to these ideals, and when it has not. Identify your stakeholders by job title and how their participation was key to the project.
