explain why it is important to manage stress

You are the coordinator of the new Wellness Initiative at Acme Widget. One goal of the initiative is to teach employees some basic principles of psychology so they will better understand whataccording to sciencecontributes to peoples feelings of stress, happiness and fulfillment. In addition, you plan to show employees why some popular theories of happiness are actually not well supported by the science of psychology. To educate employees on these topics, you will create a handbook and a short video presentation.

Directions

Be sure you are familiar with how to evaluate scientific claims and the psychological concepts of emotion, positive psychology and stress.

Create a section for the employee handbook on recognizing and dealing with stress. Your work should:

be written in your own words (without using jargon), well organized and clearly labeled
define stress and summarize your bodys reaction to stressincluding changes to the nervous system, hormones and heart
explain the following terms in your own words: optimism, self-efficacy and hardiness
explain why it is important to manage stress
describe some strategies for managing and responding to stress
Then, watch the two videos from the Project Resources. One is a video on the secret to happiness by Brendon Burchard, a motivational author who claims to help people attain their goals through common sense solutions. The other is part of a lecture by Sonja Lyubomirsky, a professor at University of California, Riverside, who claims that being kind to others can increase peoples happiness. You may want to take notes as you watch the videos. Be sure to explore each speaker\’s website to better evaluate their work and methods.

Explain Aging, death, and dying or Body image/eating disorders

For this assignment you will analyze one fictional work listed under your course theme, or a fictional work approved by the instructor (fictional works may include films). The course theme must be discussed in your response, regardless, and you must include at least one secondary source. As you work, consider how your particular theme is treated within the work of fiction. Let\’s say I choose the theme of death and dying. I would locate a literary story/poem/play/film that deals with death and dying, such as the movie Heaven is for Real. I would then analyze how the movie deals with the theme. For instance, it suggests that (as the title states) Heaven is a real place, and that it contains deceased loved ones. In one part of this film (which is based on a true account), a child who had a near-death experience recalls meeting his \”sister\” who was miscarried.

describe the major issues and problems to be addressed by your research.

I am looking for a proposal for a nationwide (in the US) research project that would create a database of information that could be used by future researchers to evaluate the effectiveness of educators and institutions.
The reasoning for this proposal is that research into schooling has been conducted in a poor fashion using subjective data, small sample sets, over short durations.
The goal would be to collect and continue to collect all ethnographic, social, economic and political data to define the students and their familys than track their academic performance e in all fields through k-12 grade then to check in on all participants in five year intervals for 20 years to determine outcomes.
Another aspect this paper will have to address is that this would require a federal law or to be made into a federal program to require compulsory participation of all publicly funded schools and students. The best way to sell this would to be that this would provide information on teachers success rates so that they could be held accountable for their failings.

The goal of a research proposal is to present and justify a research idea you have
and to present the practical ways in which you think this research should be
conducted. Research proposals contain extensive literature reviews and must
provide persuasive evidence that there is a need for the research study being
proposed. In addition to providing rationale for the proposed research, a proposal
describes detailed methodology for conducting the research consistent with
requirements of the professional or academic field and a statement on anticipated
outcomes and/or benefits derived from the study.
Parts of a Research Proposal
Title Page: Titles should be comprehensive enough to indicate the nature of the
proposed work, but also be brief.
Abstract: A brief but effective summary (approx. 300 words) which states the
problem addressed by the proposed research, identifies the solution, and specifies the
objectives and methods of the project. It should include the research question, the
rationale for the study, the hypothesis (if any), the method and the main findings.
Descriptions of the method may include the design, procedures, the sample and any
instruments that will be used.
Introduction: The introduction of a proposal should begin with a capsule statement
of what is being proposed and then should proceed to introduce the subject to a
stranger. It should give enough background to enable an informed layman to place
your particular research problem in a context of common knowledge and should
show how its solution will advance the field or be important for some other work. The
statement describes the significance of the problem(s), referring to appropriate
studies or statistics. The main purpose of the introduction is to provide the necessary
background or context for your research problem. The introduction generally covers
the following elements:
-State the research problem (the purpose of the study). Provide the context and set the stage
for your research question to show its necessity and importance.
-Present the rationale of your proposed study and clearly indicate why it is worth doing.
-Briefly describe the major issues and problems to be addressed by your research.
-Specify the phenomenon you want to study. This may include identifying key independent and
dependent variables.
-State your hypothesis or theory, if any. For exploratory or phenomenological research, you
may not have any hypotheses.
-Set the delimitation or boundaries of your proposed research in order to provide a clear focus

Discuss How do you modify what you do and say in each situation?

Submit a 3 (full content) – 4 page paper. Use either ASA (American Sociological Association) style (see ASA and APA Writing Style Guides) or APA (American Psychological Association) style for your paper. This includes 1\” margins, Times New Roman font at 12pt., double spacing, a title page, bibliography page, and citations for any material that is not your own work. Save your paper in DOC/DOCX, RTF (rich text format) or PDF (Acrobat). Note: Open Office users should save in PDF format to retain the spacing!

After reading the CyberfacePreview the documentView in a new window article and the excerpt from Goffmans Presentation of SelfPreview the documentView in a new window, write an autoethnography to make your own impression management visibleand to help you see how integral it is to your everyday life. You will observe yourself acting and interacting in two different social situations, and will then do a comparative analysis of your presentation of self in each setting. Make sure to use Goffmans terms in your paper and quotes from all of the readings to earn full points!

Choose two very different situations that you will encounter this week in everyday life, and commit to observing yourself for thirty minutes as you participate in each. For example, you may observe yourself at work, at a family birthday celebration, at lunch with friends, in your math class, riding on the bus or train, or watching a football game. The two situations you choose dont need to be extraordinary in any way; in fact, the more mundane, the better. But they should be markedly different from one another.

After observing yourself in the two situations, consider all the following questions.

What kinds of things do you say (expressions given) in each situation?
How are your facial expressions, style of dress, body language, etc. (expressions given off), different in each situation?
How do you modify what you do and say in each situation? Are there things you say or do in one that would be inappropriate, strange, or even absurd in the other?
What type of front do you encounter when you enter each situation? And what type of personal front do you bring to each?
How does the region or setting affect your presentation of self there? Can you identify backstage regions and frontstage regions for each situation?
Who are you in each situation? Do you present a slightly different version of yourself in each? Why?
As you observe the most minute of your interactions, you will probably discover that you perform somewhat different versions of yourself in the two situations. Doing student, for instance, might be very different from doing boyfriend.

Your final paragraph should respond to this final Goffman-inspired question: does engaging in impression management mean that we have no basic, unchanging self? If we bring different selves to different situations, what does that say about the idea of a true self?
