Concept Paper

This first report will tell me what your Group proposed research question will be, what type of research design you propose to use and why. In the concept paper, you also need to provide a listing of all the variables you propose to measure in your study, along with conceptual definitions. In addition, you need to explain how you propose to collect data (Primary or secondary
source).

We are trying to find a correlation between the apprehensions along the US/ Mexico border and what causes any spikes to arise given certain times of the year or any world events that occur. I am unsure what variables to use and am asking for help creating or describing these variables. Here are some useful websites that include statistical information.

U.S. border apprehensions of Mexicans fall to historic lows

Question 2: 2pages
The chief of the local probation dept. has been approached by a councelling service which states that it offers a domestic violence program virtually guaranteed to reduce incidents of domestic violence committed by men who have been placed on probation for abusing their spouses/partners. The chief agrees to purchase services onlyif a pilot study can demonstrate that the program is truly effective at reducing further acts of violence. You have been asked to assess the effectiveness of the program. The chef indicates that group of 8 probationers has volunteered to take part in the study. They are to be subjected to the counseling service\’s 16-week domestic violence therapy program and will take pre and post -test measures of their attitude toward domestic violence by filling out questionnaire.

**Explain what your concerns might be about the proposed design of the study ( ask questions about the sampling method, sample size, and if the plan to measure the outcome truly measures a reduction in recidivism, among other thing). Can the study be done in a better way? If so, explain in as much detail of how you could do it.

Homework set 4

Directions: Answer the following questions on a separate document. Explain how you reached the answer or show your work if a mathematical calculation is needed, or both. Submit your assignment using the assignment link in the course shell. This homework assignment is worth 100 points.  Use the following information for questions 1 through 4: The Goodman Industries’ and Landry Incorporated’s stock prices and dividends, along with the Market Index, are shown below. Stock prices are reported for December 31 of each year, and dividends reflect those paid during the year. The market data are adjusted to include dividends.  Goodman Industries    Landry Incorporated        Market Index Year  Stock Price  Dividend  Stock Price  Dividend  Includes Dividends 2013  $25.88   $1.73   $73.13   $4.50         17495.97 2012  22.13    1.59     78.45    4.35         13178.55 2011  24.75     1.50     73.13    4.13         13019.97 2010  16.13     1.43     85.88     3.75           9651.05 2009  17.06     1.35     90.00     3.38           8403.42 2008  11.44     1.28      83.63     3.00           7058.96  1. Use the data given to calculate annual returns for Goodman, Landry, and the Market Index, and then calculate average annual returns for the two stocks and the index. (Hint: Remember, returns are calculated by subtracting the beginning price from the ending price to get the capital gain or loss, adding the dividend to the capital gain or loss, and then dividing the result by the beginning price. Assume that dividends are already included in the index. Also, you cannot calculate the rate of return for 2008 because you do not have 2007 data.)  2. Calculate the standard deviations of the returns for Goodman, Landry, and the Market Index. (Hint: Use the sample standard deviation formula given in the chapter, which corresponds to the STDEV function in Excel.)  3. What dividends do you expect for Goodman Industries stock over the next 3 years if you expect the dividend to grow at the rate of 5% per year for the next 3 years? In other words, calculate D1, D2, and D3. Note that D0 = $1.50.  4. Assume that Goodman Industries’ stock has a required return of 13%. You will use this required return rate to discount the dividends calculated earlier. If you plan to buy the stock, hold it for 3 years, and then sell it for $27.05, what is the most you should pay for it?

MODEL RESPONSE

Question: Why was President Andrew Johnson impeached and what impact did it have?

FACT/EVIDENCE: The textbook reveals that Johnson was charged with \\\”high crimes and misdemeanors\\\” on \\\”eleven counts of misconduct.\\\” We learn this week that Johnson opposed black suffrage and vetoed the Reconstruction Act of 1867, but that Congress overrode his veto. The Reconstruction Act of 1867 divided the country into military districts and provided specific instructions on how freed blacks would be allowed to vote in elections, but prevented ex-confederate leaders from voting. Johnson also suspended Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. The impeachment did not bring down the president because Congress fell short of convicting him. The book states that the \\\”dissenting Republicans felt that removing a president for defying Congress was too damaging to the constitutional system of checks and balances.\\\” The impeachment did open the door for Ulysses S. Grant to become the next president (1). ANALYSIS and OPINION: Although the book does not specifically state what charges were brought against Johnson, it seems as though Congress wanted to punish him for his anti-suffrage views. It is clear that tensions were high during this period, and that the country was still trying to grapple with all the difficulties of the post-Civil War period. I am wondering if Congress was trying to get revenge on Johnson or whether there were actually any real crimes or misdemeanors. It\\\”s interesting how the ex-confederates were prevented from voting, but I guess this was necessary to keep them from coming back into power. I learned from the reading that during an impeachment, the House of Representatives serves as the prosecutor and the Senate is the court. I also find it interesting that the southern states were divided into military districts, but I guess this is what they needed to do to ensure that freed blacks could vote. It is amazing how many changes took place during the country at this time. To think that people who were slaves right before the war would be voting in just a few short years is amazing. QUESTION FOR THE CLASS: My question for the class this week is: Do you think there is any connection between the black suffrage movement and the women\\\”s suffrage movement that came later? QUESTION FOR THE PROFESSOR: Should we give the founding fathers any credit for the great changes that occurred in social issues many years later?

make graphs, charts, or tables in different way

Find a technical journal for your current or planned field of work, and look for an article that has graphs, charts, or tables in it. Select  of the graphic presentations and represent them in a different format. (If something is presented as a Pie Chart, consider using a Bar Chart or other format). You must create  graphic presentations. Remember to include the reference for the journal source that you choose or a copy of the original graphic representation you presented in a different format. Follow the “good” style formats referenced in “An Engineer’s Guide to Technical Communication” chapter 9, starting on page 158. Excel is a good choice for creating charts and tables and you can paste the results into a word file. Each student is responsible for submitting their own created graphic presentations. –          Margins on the document should be 1’’ on all sides.-          Please spell check and proofread your work.-          Please add page numbers to your document.
