Portfolio Papers #4: Visual Arguments
Objective: To analyze or critique visual arguments so that you can form compelling ones, analyze others visual arguments, and/or critique these arguments in the future
Topic:
After reading, discussing, and debating one or two of the essays of interest (Henry Louis Gates, Jr.s 2 Life Crew, Decoded, Gloria Steinems Wonder Woman, Deborah Ross Escape from Wonderland: Disney and the Female Imagination, Farhad Manjoos Do I Really Have to Join Twitter?, Ellen Lees Social Sites Are Becoming Too Much of a Good Thing, and/or Lakshmi Chaudhrys Mirror, Mirror on the Web ), then write your own essay to analyze or critique an ad, cartoon, or website for its explicit and implicit argument for or against something. Identify the rational, emotional, and ethical appeal(s) with vivid, supporting, descriptive detail and/or quoting of the image (and text) being examined.
Length: 2-3 pages of essay writing in-between the cover page (page 1), Abstract page (page 2), and References page (page 5 or 6)
Format: APA format
