American Values Assessment: Part One (20% of course grade)
Content Analysis Writing Assignment (due end of Week 3; post to assignments folder and to Special Discussion Discussion/Week 4).
Read and respond in a one to two page paper on the topic: American Values Assessment: A Content Analysis.
Guidelines:
(1) Read and note the following three URLS and other sources of your choice that depict Typical American values that have existed over the recent past, particularly contemporary values (some of which were documented in 2011).

(2) Write a two to three page essay, in which you compare and contrast your own values to the values found in the above websites. According to Bellah et al. (2007) in Habits of the Heart, the founders of our nation viewed the following principles as most important as our political and philosophical foundation: (1) Republicanism, (2) Individualism, (3) Freedom of Religion, and (4) Entrepreneurship. Do yours coincide with the above? How so and/or how not do you differ?
Make sure that you construct and present your essay clearly. Please make sure that your essay contains the following components:
(a) Introduction
(b) Claims and Supporting Evidence
(c) Analysis
(d) Summary/Conclusions

(3) In the Special Discussion (Week 4), please post your essay and then review the essays posted by your classmates. In the discussion, compare your values with at least 2 of your classmates, commenting on the reasoning and social factors why your values might you differ from others in the class. A maximum of three points will be added to your Assessment Part 1 grade.
