1.Subject: A contemporary ethical issue
2.Topic: Students choice of one of the contemporary issues available on Opposing Viewpoints In Context database or in Current Issues (see Part Five Casebooks 505-652). Please select a topic that you are interested in exploring, not one that you have already written about. (Please do not write about abortion!)
3.Purpose: Argue a position regarding one of the issues available in our text or the database. The paper should be 7-10 pages in length and must include MLA style in-text citations and lead-ins or signal phrases for all quotes, paraphrases, and summaries. A Works Cited page is required. Students should include appropriate visual images (charts, tables, graphs, photos). Students must include citations (summaries and/or quotes) from at least five different print sources including Opposing Viewpoints articles.
4.Organization: The argument should follow the deductive or logical syllogism pattern (major premise/warrant, minor premise/support, absolute conclusion/claim). The major premise / warrant should articulate an appropriate moral principle like the Singer essay Famine, Affluence, and Morality. The major premise /warrant may include reservations and backing.
