Choosing a topic and articles
First, choose one of the topics in the Research paper – Topics and readings (found on Canvas). You must choose an article from the period of development (infancy, middle childhod, or adolescence) that you signed up for. This will serve as your topic and as one of your sources.
( Provided by teacher for first source:
The Gale Encyclopedia of Children\’s Health: Infancy through Adolescence
Deirdre S. Blanchfield, ed. 3rded. Farmington Hills, MI: Gale, 2016. 3133 pp. 4 vols.)
Next, find two or more additional sources that relate to your topic using the following steps:
Go to the library website: https://libraries.santarosa.edu
Santa Rosa junior college library .com
Type your topic (such as attachment or teen pregnancy) into the Smart Search. You may include search terms that make your topic more specific (such as attachment and grandparents).
Limit your search to magazines, 2006 to 2017, full text, using the options on the left.
Choose two interesting articles that are reputable, relevant, and at least 3 pages long. For example, Interview with Kerry Washington or something published in In Style magazine would not be a good choice.
Note: you may use your textbook as an additional source when writing your paper, but it should not be a dominant part of your paper.
Writing the research paper
Your research paper should contain the following components:
Introduction: summarize the main points of your articles or background information on your topic (1-2 paragraphs).
Synthesis: explain how your sources relate to each other. Do the sources share similar information? What do they have in common, or how are they different? Do they build upon each other? Or, do they disagree with each other? (3-4 paragraphs)
Application: How can this information be used in practical settings? For example, what do teachers, parents, or medical professionals need to know about this topic? How do you suggest disseminating the information? (1-2 paragraphs)
Further research: Propose a question for further research. What do we still need to know about this topic? Write a few sentences explaining why you believe this is an important question for further research (1 paragraph).
Formatting Requirements
Your paper must be written using APA style. The following component of APA formatting will count towards your grade. That means I am not grading you for other aspects of APA such as a title page or a running heading. For more information on APA formatting, click on the links.
Times New Roman font, 12-point, double spaced, one-inch margins.

In-text citations. These should be used each time you refer to information from one of your sources.
When in doubt, add a citation. It is better to have too many than too little.
In APA style, in-text citations are done with parentheses around the last name(s), and the year. For example, (Jones, 2001). Or, (Jones & Johnson, 2003).
Alternatively, you can begin your paragraph with the author, and only cite the year. For example: According to Jones (2001),
