Description: The community analysis paper assignment asks you to engage with our course readings by focusing on how community functions in the text. In doing so, well explore the larger course theme of community and identity. This paper will have three parts:
In your first section (1-3 paragraphs) describe your experience of reading the text. In other words, what was your personal response to it (emotionally, intellectually, etc.)? You may use first person here.
Then, move on to ANALYSIS and third-person writing:
Next, you will describe an important aspect of the way the author or text uses community in the text. How does the community environment inform a characters identity, for example? How is an individual or a family shaped by the place where they live in the text? You will write one paragraph that gives your overall argument about community in the text (this should include your thesis statement!).
In the next section, you will make claims about three different moments in the text that prove your point about community and identity (made in part two). For each point, refer to and quote from specific lines in the text for evidence, and explain how that evidence proves your claimthis is analysis! Cite quotes accurately using MLA style. Each of these claims should be a paragraph, for a total of three paragraphs.
Formatting: Because this is a three-part essay, I would like you to format it in three sections (numbered 1, 2, and 3), corresponding with the requirements in the description.
Grading: CAPs will be graded out of 10 points according to the following scale:
