Assignment Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to give students an idea about how research can improve understanding of human development. You are to choose a controversial topic in developmental psychology (if you are not sure ask your instructor). You are then going to read a scholarly journal article related to the controversial topic and then summarize what you read so that virtually anyone can understand it. You may take one side or compare the pros and cons.
BE SURE THAT YOU BASE YOUR PAPER ON AN ARTICLE FROM A SCHOLARLY JOURNAL. (Your instructor will explain how to find scholarly journals). The article you choose must not be more than 5 years old. Be sure to include a copy of the article when you submit your paper to your professor.
IMPORTANT:
Try to avoid sharing personal experiences and/or personal opinions. This paper is a scientific review of the article. Your job is to read it and simplify the results so that the average person could understand it.

Please be careful not to plagiarize. To receive credit for this paper, you must explain the article in your own words.
FORMAT GUIDELINES:
The paper should be 3-5 pages in length and should be typed.
The entire paper should be double-spaced with 12-point font size.
All margins should be one inch.
Place your name, class, and date in the upper left-hand corner of the first page of your paper.
Reference Page
You need a complete reference for the article that you reviewed. Be sure that your reference is in the most current APA style. (Your instructor will cover this style, or you can go to http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/ and visit the Research and Citation section.)
You will probably have only one reference on your reference page. The reference page should be on a separate page. The following APA format should be used for your reference page:

Explanation of APA reference above: Note that the APA format includes the last name and the first initials of all the authors. Then provide in parentheses the year of publication. Next provide the title of the article, with ONLY the first word of the title capitalized. Next list the title of the journal that the article came from. Be sure to capitalize the journal and put it in italics. Then include the volume number of the journal and put that in italics. Finally, list the pages of the article (not italicized) and the DOI if there is one. Make sure you put the periods and commas in the same exact format that you see in the example above.
