Unique topic related to what the writer is going to write about

Project description
Reaction Paper 3
For the last Paper, you will examine one of the films weve viewed late in the semester: Pariah or Mask. If you choose Pariah, you will be discussing intersections of race, class, and sexuality and their impact on you, personally, as a viewer. If you choose Mask, you will be discussing intersections of race, class, and disability and their impact on you, personally, as a viewer.
The task is an opportunity for you to show your reader how you engage with your chosen movie, and what that engagement says about you. As with the first two essays, you must use specific, vivid examples from the movie you choose examples that are relevant to and illustrative of race, class, and sexuality OR disability.
The main difference between Reaction Paper 3 and your first two essays is that you are free to explore meanings that the movie has for you, while continuing to develop your skills of discussing intersectionality in American film.
The writing exercise is meant to have many possibilities. For example, you could write about what you learned about race, class, and sexuality OR disability by watching the movie. You could discuss the emotional impact of the movie on you aspects of the movie (e.g., narrative, visual, formal) that saddened you, angered you, amused you, inspired you, motivated you, disturbed you, and more. You could discuss how you identified, or did not identify, with one or more characters.
You may not use sources other than (1) your movie choice; (2) America on Film textbook; (3) Race, Class, and Gender textbook.
You must quote from or paraphrase (2) or (3), or both, to support your argument in Essay 3.
Formatting
Each Reaction Paper should be 900-1200 words (3-4 pages double-spaced).
Citations: Be sure to cite your movie and your text sources with MLA formatting, and include a Works Cited at the end (it doesnt have to be on a separate sheet). In-text example (direct quote): It has been argued that Americans have come to understand that the Constitution is a living document, one that can be and has been changed to encompass a wider meaning of equality (Benshoff and Griffin 6). Author name given prior to direct quote: Benshoff and Griffin have argued that Americans have come to understand that the Constitution is a living document, one that can be and has been changed encompass a wider meaning of equality (6). In-text example (paraphrase) – From an historical perspective, its clear that the Constitution is a living document whose meanings have changed over time (Benshoff and Griffin 6).
Grading
For each Paper, I will grade you on your effective, thorough answering of the prompts (identity categories, your personal/emotional reactions to the film), plus Intro/Conclusion, in the 3-4 pages allotted. Your content (argument/evidence) is most important; grammar/style is secondary, though you must write clearly enough that I understand the argument

Routinization and its Impact on Work & Self

Project description
In this essay, we return to a theme that began our semester: the relationship between work and self, and how it is shaped by social (i.e., cultural, economic, and organizational) conditions. Robert Merton, Everett Hughes, Howard Becker and others address this dynamic. But, their writings from some decades ago did not (and could not have) addressed the rise of the service economy, nor the routinization of service occupations that Robin Leidner documents in “Fast Food, Fast Talk.”
In your essay, draw on Leidner’s book, as well as on the chapter dealing with “Goffman’s Dramaturgical Approach” by Kivisto & Pittman (in the instructors folder) to work/employment. Address the following questions:
1. What are among the distinctive demands and challenges, for workers, in highly routinized jobs such as fast food and insurance sales? Also, how and why are these demands and pressures different, in the two major empirical cases that Leidner analyzes (McDonald’s and Combined Insurance)?

2. What do you see as the distinctive contributions–as well as limitations–of Goffman’s dramaturgical approach, for understanding how workers experience and manage such demands? (Feel free also to draw on your own work experiences.) Be as specific as possible, in illustrating your argument with examples and/or discussions from Leidner.

3. Finally, in concluding your essays, re-read and refer back to Hughes’ essay on “work and self.” In a sense, this will require that you address changes in cultural and social conditions of work, over the past half century or so.
Sociological reflection and analysis is not primarily aimed at moral judgments. However, understand that, like Leidner in her conclusion, your writing is likely to involve some moral stance, regarding whether the increasing routinization of work is good or bad, on balance, for our work lives, and why you take the position you advocate.

I believe there needs to be a balance in the routinization. Yes some things need to be controlled, but people are not robots and shouldn’t be 100% controlled.

Answer the following questions. Each of them must be 1 and half pages. it means total must be 15 pages

1. Issues on innovation and technology influence both external and internal environmental scanning.   How should a corporation scan the external environment for new technological development? 2. Suppose you are the owner of a small business, who is currently facing a serious problem (any  problem). (a) How could you make a decision to resolve this problem?  Explain your decision-making  process to resolve this problem.  (b) How would you transfer of power and wealth in a family business if  you have a plan to retire in the future? 3. There are five major leadership theories including trait theories, behavioral theories, power and  influence theories, contingency theories, and integration theories.  Explain them shortly. 5. There have been arguments on strategic leadership by corporate executives and top management  team.  (a) What are those arguments?  (b) There have been external and internal constraints on  corporate executives.  What are they, and how do they affect the leader’s behavior? 6. Project description
Students will submit a final paper (8 to 12 pages in length) that critically analyzes a topic or theme of the students choosing. A paper proposal and preliminary bibliography will be submitted during week 12 of the semester. Students will run their final papers through Turnitin and attach/upload their report or percentage number to the final assignment (students may also email the instructor their turnitin report). If students are worried about confidentiality, they may remove all of their personal information from the submission before running the report.
We talked a little bit about the Spanish American War (Remember the Main, to hell with Spain!) in which the US stepped in Cuba, PR, and the DR’s revolutions and defeated Spain. In so defeating Spain, US set up their own dictators in Cuba and DR, and kept Puerto Rico as a US territory. Years later, PR is beyond bankrupt as a US territory and left more or less neglected, and Cuba, while not wealthy, is at least autonomous and progressing (albeit slowly). A great article:

Caribbean neighbors Cuba and Puerto Rico wonder who really won cold war

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/may/03/cuba-puerto-rico-us-relations-poverty-debt-corruption-cold-war

We also talked about Caribbean push-back against Western cultural influences. Calle 13 (they wrote Latinoamerica, we listened to it at the very beginning of class) has a song called “Gringo Latin Funk” that discusses Latinos who want to be more like Americans, and the artist’s opinion of them. In some sense, it also covers a lot of what we discusssed about Caribbean machismo and gender/sex violence:

Here’s the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkIRzhQwweo

And here’s a translation of the lyrics: http://lyricstranslate.com/en/Gringo-Latin-Funk-Gringo-Latin-Funk.html

Just some finds I wanted to share! If you check either of the links out, send me a quick email with your thoughts.

The Grandmother in a good man is hard to find

Project description
I have already written some of the paper which should give you and idea, but basically i need to explain how the grandmother pretends to be a good christian but deep down she isnt. if you could edit what i already have that would be helpful.

The following is what i have already written.

People often convince themselves of staying on the course of righteousness throughout their lives, however such vanity is the reason many stray from this path and give an external illusion of a righteous person. Flannery OConnors A Good Man is Hard to Find the grandmother deludes herself into believing that she is the product of years of religiously attending church, and conforming to what is expected from a good christian through appearance and a fabricated character, and as such is a righteous person. Although these factors may convince her peers and even herself, that she has achieved inner salvation, it is obvious through her thoughts and actions that she is light years away from true salvation.
To begin with the grandmother does and thinks things that contradict the practices of a good christian, the first being selfishness and deceit. THE GRANDMOTHER didn”t want to go to Florida. She wanted to visit some of her connections in east Tennessee and she was seizing at every chance to change Bailey”s mind. (A Good Man is Hard to Find), even though the rest of the family wanted to go to Florida she attempts to convince them to go to Tennessee by lying and stating that it would be for the whole family, when in reality she wants to go for herself and doesnt care about the others. Right of the bat she has sinned twice before the story can even begin, and she does it in such a way that the others dont think that she is lying or being selfish; in fact she does it in a way that she deceives them into believing that she is being considerate. Although she has sinned already, she does not necessarily believe that she has done something wrong, she has deceived herself into believing that she is being considerate, but deep down she knows these are selfish and deceitful actions. This example gives light into how arrogant and manipulative the grandmother is since she believes that what she want to do is far more important than anyone else and she is willing to delude her family to get what she wants. She does these sorts of things so often that she begins to convince herself that she is a righteous person, however the little girl, June Star, seems to catch on and is not so easily fooled by the grandmother .
The grandmother convinces herself that she is a righteous person through nearly every aspect of her life, right down to the clothes she wears. the grandmother had on a navy blue straw sailor hat with a bunch of white violets on the brim and a navy blue dress with a small white dot in the print. Her collars and cuffs were white organdy trimmed with lace and at her neckline she had pinned a purple spray of cloth violets containing a sachet. In case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady.(A Good Man is Hard to Find). During this time this was the acceptable attire of a good christian woman, and she wears it to trick other people into believe that she is a righteous person. She follows all the precedents of a good christian from the way she speaks to the way she dresses, however her actions and thoughts do not reflect those of a good christian.”In my time,” said the grandmother, folding her thin veined fingers, “children were more respectful of their native states and their parents and everything else. People did right then. She even scolds the children in a lesson on how to be a good child; which is ironic considering the fact that the children seem to be the first to realize the hypocrisy of their grandmother. The grandmother remembers a house and makes Bailey take a path that she then realizes is in Tennessee; this path is metaphoric of the grandmother leading the others astray on an unrighteous path full of lies and deceit.

Achieving quality in health and social care services requires better leadership

Project description
*Evaluate the organisational and managerial context for change in health and social care
*Evaluate and apply relevant theoretical approaches (Donabedian and Maxwell)
*Analyse ethical aspects of management particularly in relation to the impact on service users and staff
*Produce and evidence based argument that addressed the given title clearly, drawing on relevant literature
*Structure and present written work to the postgraduate standard using the academic conventions including referencing
*The summary
Oasis is a residential care home located in East London area, with 25 service users consisting mainly of older people with Dementia and learning disabilities. The service users are all dependent on care staff to help them to meet up with their daily activities, some of them are very frail and constantly losing their memory. Few are learning disability with poor mobility and it is paramount that the services to be given to them should be of quality standard and tailored to their specific needs.
Recently, the service users are regularly becoming ill due to cross- infection and poor control of infection. The Care home is well staffed and the team on attendance for regular shift are about 8 in numbers with skill mixes. 2 staff take care of general cleaning of the environment, 3 staff attends to clients personal hygiene, the manager monitors and supervise care activities and cleaning and 2 others ensure food hygiene including eating utensils such as plates, cutleries and drinking water are in good required standard. But the prevention and control of infection is still very poor despite the division of labour, service users are falling sick and cross infection is on high rate. This report will be examining the quality issue with regards to infection control within the management
Achieving Quality in HSC Services requires better leadership
The service user needs and preferences has to be met and well delivered, the services will need to be under the good leadership of the registered manager and responsible individual who will be monitoring and supervising the care activities. The premises where care and treatment are delivered including the equipment must be cleaned, suitable for the intended purpose. The process of Infection prevention and control must be sensitive and well implemented so that service users will not suffer the consequences of poor practice.
This process of achieving quality services is a team work and all strategies to make it to be a success has to be embraced by all individual who is responsible for care services. The report will identify key issues that will need to be addressed so as to achieve quality in HSC services with better leadership. Team working and developing skill will need to be in place within the management to encourage achievement of quality in HSC environment by better leadership (Salas et al,2008).
Further finding discovered that the care home is lacking in quality of care they provide to services user, the services are sub-standard and therefore putting the wellbeing of service user at risk. Quality care achievement is about good connection between organisation, registered managers, staff and especially among individuals. Achieving quality services is everybody contribution and involvement, it cannot be justified for botch (Hill and Reichgott 1979) In order to achieve quality care services, key issues have been identified within care home which will need to be addressed so as to achieve desire result
