Final Assisgnment

Final Assignment:Trifles Writing Assignment

Trifles Writing Assignment

You will not be writing a formal academic paper for this final assignment. Instead, I would like for you to think about the play “Trifles.” Think about the meaning of the play and what the writer is trying to communicate.

Now: imagine that you are creating a movie trailer/visual for “Trifles” the movie. Find/create image(s) to use in your visual advertisement of the upcoming film that would communicate the meaning of the movie to someone who is interested in seeing it. What I mean is that visually, there should be a “hook” (as Gerri refers to it.) that draws the viewer/reader in. Then explain how/why the visuals would work as an attention grabber for the film

Someone used an extended trailer of the film with a personal music choice. How does it affect the visual meaning of the trailer? Search out other trailers/ads for this movie and compare.

Next: Consider all of the characters in the play “Trifles”, and decide what actors you would have play each part and why. Think about characterization. Think about what kind of parts actors have played in the past that might lend themselves to this play if you were directing them in the movie version.

Next: What songs would you choose for the music score to this new movie version of “Trifles?” You can think about how modern you may want the movie to be, in a different setting maybe. List the songs and explain when to use them and why. Would you make an original score just for the movie?

For this assignment you will:

Part A – Post the pictures and your explanation of the images for the trailer/ad on the Trifles page. Save and submit as an attachment to Blackboard.
Part B – Post your music selection of existing songs and justifications as to how they would add to the action if “Trifles” was a film, and you must choose the Musical Score. Provide the song title and a link to the song. I.e. find the song on YouTube and simply provide the link in a Microsoft word document.
Part C – Write/paste your List of Characters and Actors. For each character/actor selection, make sure to explain why you have made this choice and justify your choice based on the actions from the original play. (ie: Hollywood continuously casts Julia Roberts as the damsel in distress so she would be ?.)
Part A thru C should be included in ONE Microsoft Word document. In one document youd include headers, Part A then provide the pictures, Part B you would then include the link to your song of choice and lastly for Part C you will include the list of characters and actors with explanations.
Due Date: Submit to Blackboard by Wednesday, May 9 by 11:59pm.

The idea is this: Once you have read the play, and it should sound familiar, then you should be able to come up with something visual to advertise it, some great music selections to accompany it, and a great cast based on what you know about each character. How many times have you thought about who would play YOU in your life? This assignment should be fun. Basically, it is all about being able to justify your choices. There are no right or wrong choices. Just – here is my choice, here is why I made this choice, and here is how it relates to the play.

I would like for you to have some fun with this assignment.

Critical Review of the article; see the link in order instructions

Project description
https://research.stlouisfed.org/publications/review/02/11/ChiodoOwyang.pdf
Article Title: “A Case Study of a Currency Crisis: The Russian Default of 1998”
SUMMARY (approximately 300 words).
Present a summary of the key points along with a limited number of examples. You can also briefly explain the authors purpose/intentions throughout the text and you may briefly describe how the text is organised. The summary should not make up more than a third of the critical review
CRITIQUE (approximately 700 words).
The critique should be a balanced discussion and evaluation of the strengths, weakness and notable features of the text. Remember to base your discussion on specific criteria. Also include other sources to support your evaluation with reference.
If there are both strengths and weakness for each criterion you use, you need to decide overall what your judgement is. For example, you may want to comment on a key idea in the text and have both positive and negative comments. You could begin by stating what is good about the idea and then concede and explain how it is limited in some way. While this example shows a mixed evaluation, overall you are probably being more negative than positive.
Theories or frameworks used should also be discussed in the critique section; you can also include recommendations for how the text can be improved in terms of ideas, research approach.
No introduction or conclusion needed!!
Just make sure to base the Critical review on the points discussed above!!

Again, in the essay revised you are writing how the authors help readers understand the text by using tables or whatever else, whereas I need these strength to be empirically supported. For example, the strength of the article is the Asian crises experience, which authors argue to have an affect on Russian economy. This argument is supported by the suggestions of the second generation models. Also, the study of Sachs et al provides a clear correlation between the two crisis in support of the argument. However, authors did not do a good job in explaining this correlation. Rather a bit more information could have been used with links to other studies.

Project description
Basically I have been suspended from my university and I have to write an appeal letter in order for my university to give me a chance to continue studying in spring/summer semester and therefore maintain a GPA over 2.00 and get in clear standing ( clear standing is a GPA OVER 2.00)
Below I will explain you in detail about what happened in last 2 semester starting from September 2015 to April 2016 (2 semesters) and the stuff I want you to mention in the letter
Please first of all start off by saying I want to reinstated and I am very upset to find out about my suspension
So basically I was going into my 2nd year of Mechanical engineering in September 2015 semester, I took a full course load but fell behind due to transportation as I was commuting from far, 3hours by bus. once I realizes I was falling behind courses I dropped one courses in order to focus on the remaining courses but I was really behind so due to that case I wasnt able to keep with all courses and ended up failing one and doing poorly in others. At the same time my older sisters wedding was right across the corner and also my family wanted to purchase a house so due to this I had to help out my family by getting a job and I just wasnt able to keep up with my courses and ended up falling behind (NOTE: ITS UP TO YOU(the writer) TO WRITE IT PROPERLY AND IN ORDER, MAYBE GO LIKE FINCANAL PROBLEM, HOUSE, WEDDING, TRASNPORATION)
During the 2nd winter semester from Jan 2016, my parents bought a house that they were intending to buy, my dad had to go out of country for work related stuff but at the same time my mom and little sister still were living at the old place and didnt move into the newly bought house, since I am the oldest of the house I had to take full responsibility that was showing people the house for renting out the rooms. I got some really bad tenants who were very bad and abusive they never followed any house rules my life was a mess, which is when I had to kick them out, but kicking them out wasnt easy as I had to call cops on quite a few occasion which was very very stressful and I was unable to focus on studies since my mind could not focus under those harsh circumstances.
The mental stress affected my health and personal life negatively. I started having sleepless nights therefore I could not focus in class. These circumstances were not under my control. But now after speaking to parents and explaining them my situation as of May 1st 2016 my family has moved in to the house and therefore I would have not have to deal with any bad tenants because my family realized how badly it has affected my studies and which is why they moved in to the house with me(NOTE: SO NO MORE TEANTS, ITS A FAMILY HOUSE NOW), therefore I can assure you that I will receive a GPA of 2.00 or higher if this appeal gets accepted. Transportation would never be an issue as I live a minute away from university. Since my family has moved in with me I will no longer be experiencing anxiety and other health related issue, my family is doing a lot better finically now and have decided to support me fully so I can continue my studies and get out of probation.
I can assure you that will be able give my 100 percent and shall let no excuses get in the way of me living up to the expectations.
I am willing to take courses that I have done poorly in, I will be update with advising about my progress, I will use all of university resources, workshops to improve my performance in classes. I have heard about probation workshop which I am willing to attend.

I would love to complete my dream of proudly graduating from this prestigious university as a Mechanical Engineer
I really need this chance to prove my worth that I am not a bad student and am a good student. Kindly reinstate me spring and summer semester as I promise to improve my GPA. I am making this humble appeal believing that I am a good learner who had a very ruthless year. Kindly give me another chance to prove my prowess in academics and reignite my dream of having a brighter future.
FINAL NOTE: PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS APPEAL IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE THAT WAS WRITTEN BEFORE FROM THIS WEBSITE, BECAUSE MY SCHOOL KEEPS IT AND HAS TO BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
This is a very very important letter for me as my life is riding on this letter. PLEASE HELP ME

New York Times Compare and Contrast

Project description
Examining life in the United States within a 50 year interval using the New York Times as a resource. You are to examine the week of April 25th, 1946 to May 2, 1946. Then April 25th, 1996 to May 2, 1996. Comparing and contrasting the differences by addressing the changes that have occurred. You are to select specific issues to speak about in this essay. For example, in April 1946 they were was a Naperville train disaster that killed 47 in Naperville, Illinois. Then violence would be the issue. You can compare and contrast these issues and how they have changed throughout 50 year interval. The purpose of this essay is to focus on how things have changed or remain the same throughout the 50-year period. But we are only comparing/contrasting the week of April 25 1946 and April 1996. Their also specific directions that I must give for you to access the New York Times as your resource. We are required to use the New York Times to gather all the information for this essay. You will go to http://libguides.lehman.edu/az.php?a=n to have free access to the New York Times. You would have to click the “New York Times Historical” link. Their they ask you for my username and password.
My username is: pedro.abreu1 my password is Lehman25
Once your in the website, you will have to modify your search. Select the dates you are writing information about. Like from April 25, 1946 to May 2, 1946 then the same for year 1996. Its a compare and contrast essay. Where you are analyzing big issues around this time. So it is good to know about the general problems that occurred. You will have to write the issue in the search bar and search for the resources that best suit the topic you found. It helps to have a general knowledge of history and what occurred doing these periods. Like this it will be easier to find specific issues.
I have a model paper and instructions I can attach. Feel free to contact me at any point if you are confused about anything. Thank You!
– Footnotes, bibliography, quotation marks when necessary are required.

Any specific topic from the writer

Project description
For the last Paper, you will examine one of the films weve viewed late in the semester: Pariah and Mask
If you choose Pariah, you will be discussing intersections of race, class, and sexuality and their impact on you, personally, as a viewer.
If you choose Mask, you will be discussing intersections of race, class, and disability and their impact on you, personally, as a viewer.

The task is an opportunity for you to show your reader how you engage with your chosen movie, and what that engagement says about you. As with the first two essays, you must use specific, vivid examples from the movie you choose examples that are relevant to and illustrative of race, class, and sexuality OR disability.

The main difference between Reaction Paper 3 and your first two essays is that you are free to explore meanings that the movie has for you, while continuing to develop your skills of discussing intersectionality in American film.

The writing exercise is meant to have many possibilities. For example, you could write about what you learned about race, class, and sexuality OR disability by watching the movie. You could discuss the emotional impact of the movie on you aspects of the movie (e.g., narrative, visual, formal) that saddened you, angered you, amused you, inspired you, motivated you, disturbed you, and more. You could discuss how you identified, or did not identify, with one or more characters.

Formatting

Each Reaction Paper should be 900-1200 words (3-4 pages double-spaced).

Citations: While the use of class readings is not required, it is highly encouraged in regards to strengthening your paper. Be sure to cite secondary sources in-text; use MLA formatting, and include a bibliography at the end (it doesnt have to be on a separate sheet).
In-text example (direct quote): It has been argued that Americans have come to understand that the Constitution is a living document, one that can be and has been changed to encompass a wider meaning of equality (Benshoff and Griffin 6).
Author name given prior to direct quote: Benshoff and Griffin have argued that Americans have come to understand that the Constitution is a living document, one that can be and has been changed encompass a wider meaning of equality (6).
In-text example (paraphrase) – From an historical perspective, its clear that the Constitution is a living document whose meanings have changed over time (Benshoff and Griffin 6).

Grading

For each Paper, I will grade you on your effective, thorough answering of the prompts (identity categories, your personal/emotional reactions to the film), plus Intro/Conclusion, in the 3-4 pages allotted. Your content (argument/evidence) is most important; grammar/style is secondary, though you must write clearly enough that I understand the argument.

Routinization and its Impact on Work & Self

Project description
In this essay, we return to a theme that began our semester: the relationship between work and self, and how it is shaped by social (i.e., cultural, economic, and organizational) conditions. Robert Merton, Everett Hughes, Howard Becker and others address this dynamic. But, their writings from some decades ago did not (and could not have) addressed the rise of the service economy, nor the routinization of service occupations that Robin Leidner documents in “Fast Food, Fast Talk.”
In your essay, draw on Leidner’s book, as well as on the chapter dealing with “Goffman’s Dramaturgical Approach” by Kivisto & Pittman (in the instructors folder) to work/employment. Address the following questions:
1. What are among the distinctive demands and challenges, for workers, in highly routinized jobs such as fast food and insurance sales? Also, how and why are these demands and pressures different, in the two major empirical cases that Leidner analyzes (McDonald’s and Combined Insurance)?

2. What do you see as the distinctive contributions–as well as limitations–of Goffman’s dramaturgical approach, for understanding how workers experience and manage such demands? (Feel free also to draw on your own work experiences.) Be as specific as possible, in illustrating your argument with examples and/or discussions from Leidner.

3. Finally, in concluding your essays, re-read and refer back to Hughes’ essay on “work and self.” In a sense, this will require that you address changes in cultural and social conditions of work, over the past half century or so.
Sociological reflection and analysis is not primarily aimed at moral judgments. However, understand that, like Leidner in her conclusion, your writing is likely to involve some moral stance, regarding whether the increasing routinization of work is good or bad, on balance, for our work lives, and why you take the position you advocate.

I believe there needs to be a balance in the routinization. Yes some things need to be controlled, but people are not robots and shouldn’t be 100% controlled.
